new to htpc

Hi guys i haev a pioneer 50 inch , and a yamaha 195 setup ,

What i am wanting to do is connect a pc up to it, mainly to access my dvds that are stored on a portable hard drive.

I have option 1 is use a spare pc, 2800+ running an ati 9600 as a htpc and use svideo in to the pionner.

THe 2nd option is to run a cable from the main pc has a e6600 and an ati1900xt , which is about 12m away i could drop a cable thru the floor and over to the tv.

The 3rd option is put the xt1900 in the spare pc, get a new video card for the gaming machine.

The query is , what will be the best suggestion out of the 3 options, and is the differance in cable noticable, could some one post a link as to what video quality each style of cable can carry eg rca wont do 1080i, which aint a bother at moment as the pioneer cant present it.

The 9600 only has svideo, but came with an adaptor to to make it a normal rca.

The 1900 has component video
.
At the moment i dont need a new video card as most games i run appear perfectly fine.

Re: new to htpc

Can I suggest a 4th option? A cheap dedicated PC.

You can get away spending less than $500 nowadays.

S-video vs component is worlds apart re quality and the other options diminish picture quality over cable length. i would suggest creating a dedicated system either out of spare parts and pluggin directly into TV via Dvi /dvi->hdmi etc
