LCD Moitor Vs LCD TV?

This has been a burning question of mine since I got the idea of making a HTPC. I have been tossing up between a Viewsonic 28" VX2835wm or Asus 26" AL2616WD. Both are 1920x1200 resolution. Either of these I can snap up for around the $700.

Or an LCD TV (would have to be 26") @ 1366x768. I'd probably try to get a Samsung seeing they can be had for around the $700 mark if you search.

Which would fare better for High Def movies/TV? Whichever way I go, it will be my main television.

Re: LCD Moitor Vs LCD TV?

I have Viewsonic 28" VX2835wm with my main(non-htpc) computer and it is an awesome monitor for the price.
I have connected it to my HTPC and it was really good, no overscan problems like with TV.
If someone made 46" monitor I would choose it over TV.

If you are OK with 26"-28" as a screen for HTPC then my suggestion is to go with a monitor, not TV

Thanks for the help there mate! Good to know the Viewsonic is also deemed as a good choice. I of course would have loved a 40+ inch TV, but I don't have the cash or space for that level of extravagance

You are welcome, we are using that screen as a second TV, we have a small couch in study room.

I would probably just leave it running 24x7 on pay-tv, as I do now with our CRT. Otherwise I would just turn it off when I get up (in the bedroom) to go have a smoke before I settle down for sleep
