Connecting HTPC to receiver so SPDIF and Analog same time

Hi All,

I'm about to buy a receiver and speaker package so I can finally complete my HTPC with 5.1 surround sound.

http://www.ehifi.com.au/news/HarmanK...rformance.aspx

I've been reading the forums to make sure I dont waste my money on equipment that wont do the job and I've come across this issue a number of times.

I have a Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3P motherboard using the Realtek High Definition Audio driver 6.0.1.5334 its dated 1/12/2006.

I have my HTPC located in my Laundry with all the cables (HDMI cable and stereo cable),run behind kitchen cabinets, under flooring and behind tiles and splashbacks so I definately can't run any more cables between the HTPC and my screen.

Can anyone advise me how to connect my HTPC to a receiver so I can choose whether to have 5.1 surround with the amp turned on or just have stereo alone through my tv with the amp off ?

Hope that makes sense

Jack

Could you please fix your link to the 5.1 system? I wouldn't mind seeing it

Re: Connecting HTPC to receiver so SPDIF and Analog same time

You should be able to do this. I use a different pvr package (www.gbpvr.com) and using the AC3Filter for audio it passes everything through to the Speaker out of my sound card (stereo - onboard ASUS M2V) and to the Digital coax (spdif) on the same mother board.

So when i have 5.1 sound - depending on the type - AC3 will go to stereo and SPDIF, DTS will only go to SPDIF.

MP3s will come out SPDIF and Stereo.
