Woohoo! I have been holding my breath for about 2 months since I bought my 46" Samsung F Series LCD as the offer included a free 26" LCD with built in Analog and HD Digital Tuners. I've long since passeb my old TV on to my kids for their bedroom and I've been missing the ability to watch TV in bed at night.
Now all I have to do is decide what extender to buy to go with it.
Awesome! That was a great deal. I wish it was around when I bought my 40" a year or so ago.
Yep. The 26" has pretty much everything the 46" has except that it isn't "full hd" (1080p). Instead it's 1366x768 so it's not real bad. It really is quite impressive for a little bedroom telly.
Extender exscmender.... Build yourself a nice quiet small form box for around $600 and you can play whatever you want with it.
Although I hear rumours over at the Media Centre Sandbox that something maybe coming for the Xbox360....
Some MCML apps are integrating transcode360 functionality in for extenders though in a reasonably seamless manner so the info-more-shuffle is no longer required.

Well maybe but I'm not really looking for heaps of functionality so for around half that price I can probably get what I want. I'm also not looking to go through all the fun of setting up another MCE box with all of its quirks and issues but from the sound of that an Xbox360 just might prove worthwhile.

We've been explicitly clear on what is supported in the way of audio and video formats in the platform -- see http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb189661.aspx. If any developer chooses to deviate from this list they do so at their own expense. Other teams at Microsoft (XBox) and external to Microsoft (v2 Extender partners) have chosen to expand their individual offerings to other codecs. We remain committed to our base set of formats which you can count on to work across all sessions of Windows Media Center no matter what the underlying capabilities of the devices might be. I can understand the passionate arguments for [insert codec here] -- we do monitor these requests and evaluate what the right mix should be in the future.
So in essence, we are committed to our backing of WMV and despite the fact no-one ever uses it because it's such a backward step over current offerings, to frackin bad.

You should also read what they say about overscan
Yep. Which is pretty much the reason why in the end I will probably just buy an extender with inbuilt DVD player. I really don't want all the hassle for a simple bedroom setup.
Extender page - two models, one with an upscaling DVD player.
Appears to be only wireless (-N) though
I have definitely had that unit in my sights but I'm not especially concerned about wireless. I think I read a review somewhere that says it can support wired ethernet and frankly I am not a fan of wireless so that's the way I'd plan to go. I've been following a thread in the forums where one or two people have already bought them and monitoring feedback before I make any decisions though.
