Speaker A/B & Amp - RX-V1700 / 1800

I want to get RX-V1700 - or may be waiting for the rxv1800. Anyhow, want to ask a question. So my setup is going to be:
1. Living room 5.1
2. Zone 2: stereo in dining.
3. Speaker B of living area for activity room (stereo).

I'm going to put IR extender in each rooms with volume control impedance.

My question:
- If living room plays a 5.1 sound --> what will speaker B play in my activity room? Downconvert to Stereo? or just the left and right front & missing the center?

And what is the solutions to make Speaker B configuration works ?

Anyone knows whether with the new rxv1800 / 3800 - I will be able to achive an actual 3 zones independently? or not? (with my living area still retaining a 5.1 sound?

Thanks....

Extracted from the user manual:

Only analog signals are sent to the second and third rooms. Any source you want to listen to in the second or third
room must be connected using the analog (AUDIO L/R) input jacks on this unit.

That means you can't use 5.1 anything on the 2nd and 3rd zones only the stereo inputs. BUT when you connect up your DVD/STB the DVD/STB also has pre down mixed stereo outs you could connect these to a different set of stereo inputs (ie. not the same input as the coax/optical) as well as the coax/optical, that way you can select that different input for the other zones and it will already be a downmix.

Re: Speaker A/B & Amp - RX-V1700 / 1800

Correct. And this is the case with all but the very expensive receivers, they don't pass the digital signal through to the 2nd or 3rd zones.

What this means is that unless you can output digital and analogue at the same time through your Media Center then you can't play MCE TV/DVD or Music outside the main zone.

Re: Speaker A/B & Amp - RX-V1700 / 1800

Thank you...

Now the specific question whether I can output "BOTH" digital & analog from a PC / xbox360.

1. Can a PC output both "DIGITAL" and "analog" at the same time. On my current vista media center (using an older gigabyte board) and realtec driver unfortunately I can only "choose" digital OR analog but not both. Any solutions?

2. How about Xbox 360? Can an X-box 360 output both Digital & analog?

Thanks....

RX-V1800_Owners_man-115.zip

Thank you... I'm just reading the manual of the new Yamaha 1800. Confused re their Zones setup? If I want to use their internal amp for the zones (& not using external amp), when will I be able to set the 3 zones independently? From manual it looks like possible... Confused...
