NVidia "4" series Chipset-no gigabit?

I am currently running two PCs with ASUS nForce4 motherboards which are supposed to support gigabit ethernet connections; however both refuse to acknowledge this data transfer speed. (Get 100ms consistantly though) One PC is running MCE 2005, the other Windows Home server.
Both are connected through a 1G switch and other computers connected to the same switch show !G connections.
All drivers of every discription are uptodate!
I have tried tweeking everything in the various consols but to no avail,
Any suggestions?

You can force 1GB, via driver.
Do you have good cables?

PS. BIOS settings?

Cables are all new "cat 6". 1G etherne is not showing as an option on the properties tag for the ethernet device/card.
Are you suggesting this might be BIOS configurable?

Re: NVidia "4" series Chipset-no gigabit?

Home server is running on an A8N-VM-CSM
MCE running on an A8 SLI
I just checked the manuals and I can not readily see how changing BIOS settings will configure 1G ethernet. Both ethernet set ups are currently set to "Auto Configure" as other attempts to get to 1G have failed

Hmm, they look like GB capable.
What switch do you have?

Netgear GS605, 5 port.
But as I mentioned previous two other PCs hooked up to the same switch show 1G connections. Obviously I would like to get the server to connect at 1G if poss.

Re: NVidia "4" series Chipset-no gigabit?

Hmmm....perhaps I'm lucky it has not failed completely (yet). I was aware of some difficulties with this switch from other posts but your referal is quite damming.
Thanks for your help Vlad; I consider the issue closed

Funny thing that I had the same switch some 5 months ago with 2 computers connected - no problems, but I agree - the reviews of it is shocking

Re: NVidia "4" series Chipset-no gigabit?

After reading your referal I tried swaping the network connections around....and guess what? the same two ports on the switch which were showing 1G connections are now showing 1G on the PCs which were previously showing only 100mps. Dodgy switch alright!!

Now for the big question....Can you recommend a 1G switch that works oh Guru?

Re: NVidia "4" series Chipset-no gigabit?

Well at work (for test environment) I use some really good and cheap(relative) LinkSys switches, never any problems. Expensive for home use.
My first GB switch was the same like yours, and was working fine
Now I am using Belkin N1 Vision
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProdu...duct_Id=377352
I have 2 PC's - one MCE 2005, one 2008 server and one 24" iMac connected to it with no problems and really good transfer rates.
Cannot comment on anything else, not from my experience.

Either of us could rec. something good to use. First thing for you to do though is figure out exactly how many ports you need and then multiply it by 1.5 Then go out and pick the most expensive one you can find .... don't buy it yet! come back here and see what we can get it for or where we recomend buying from.
