Sharing a USB Next-G modem possible?

Hi Everyone,

We've just moved into the new house (very exciting) and have no phone line as yet (thankyou Telstra).

In the meantime, I've setup my office machine to use my work NextG USB modem. This works fine as I am using this connection to type this post.

I am having problems trying to connect my office PC via ethernet to my router and then get the HTPC to connect to the internet through the office PC.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction or provide some tips as to how you can use a router to share an internet connection when one of the PCs is the actual connection, not a modem?

Thanks,
Birdie

I've never used it, but what about internet connection sharing?

Re: Sharing a USB Next-G modem possible?

Simple, yet effective advice thanks eepunk.

I thought that by following the wizards, I was setting up ICS, but a few little tweaks later I'm all good.

Cheers,
Birdie

Yes, the other option is the maxon usb to ethernet connection sharing docking station. Basically plug in your USB modem and has ethernet port with dhcp, some firewall features etc. http://www.maxon.com.au/products_eth...n_overview.php

Re: Sharing a USB Next-G modem possible?

Thanks Skygazer.

I read about that one on the whirlpool forums, but thought that I should have been able to get ICS working so as to avoid purchasing more hardware as its only a short term solution. If wireless internet was all I could get in this area, then I would have considered one, but wireless internet is all too flakey for my liking.

My work is currently working out of a meeting room whilst our leased premises is being fitted out. We're using wireless to connect via a VPN to the corporate network and it drops out as many as ten times a day - too much for my liking.

Anyway, I ended up getting it working. The only reason I wanted to share the connection was so that my MCE box could update the guide. All done.

Cheers,
Birdie
