Virtual remote

Virtual remote allows you to control mce from another pc

Please note that the new version is no longer compatible with MCE Controller.

Created by Ryan Tollefson it is a front end for mce controller, a text based controller designed by Charlie Kindel.

Please note that the new version is no longer compatible with MCE Controller.

Change **Installation -- you install the server part (MCEController_1_1_0_Setup)**

Installation -- you install the server part (Virtual Remote Server.exe) on mce and load up the server program on the mce user account that you use to watch tv by putting that into the startup folder. I had to allow through windows firewall. Put the virtual remote program on the pc you want to control mce with. Put it in its own folder as its not a very clean Installation program. It has not affected my termsvr.dll patch machine or the way I login.

I’ve uploaded beta v0.18 which has more than one mce server available by right clicking, I only have one mce system so I can’t comment on that bit. Get here http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/comm...do=file&id=155

Why is so good, at lest for me, I contracted motor neurone disease (mnd/als) a couple of years ago. About november I found I could no longer type. But a month ago I found this head tracking device called a smartnav. It works by the camera (???) tracking a silver dot on my hat or my modified sunglasses (I’ve taken the lens out). I type with an on-screen keyboard, it’s slow, but at lest I can communicate again.

that’s not me she’s easier to look at

I had been look at remote control software for an old PDA and using a type of remote desktop to the PDA via usb, it was all crapy, now I can use my mce again. I have to tell you how important this is, I was left home alone the other day (bliss) but I can no longer use the mce remote or the mce keyboard anymore and DR Phil came on, I wasn’t able to change the channel or even turn it off. I learnt if I was a 50 year old woman and have a 25 year old son I shouldn’t bring 30 year old one night stands home. I suppose I should be grateful it wasn’t a vacuum cleaner add or ………

Version 0.18 of MCE Virtual Remote is out! Please see above for the download.

Quick Summary:

No longer uses MCE Controller.
Uses a new backend server.
New backend server lets you run MCE Virtual Remote on the same machine as the server app.
Can pass most keystrokes on client machine to the host machine (while MCE Virtual Remote is active) - very usefull for typing album names for music .
All Media Buttons on client machine (Volume +/-, Play/Pause, Stop, Skip, Prev, Mute) are passed to the server (while MCE Virtual Remote is active)
Several minor bug fixes

Please note that the new version is no longer compatible with MCE Controller.

cheers Steve
