Question Network Share Script

Hi All,

This is my 1st post on the forum and I have a question about my network connection script.

I use a script very similar to the ones posted in earlier threads which runs on start-up of my MCE PC, however if my server PC (XP Pro) isn't running when it boots the shares obviously do not connect. So I also have a copy of the script under the 'More Programs' menu in media center so I can manually establish the shares later, my question is this:

How do you make the script run without media center loosing focus? Even if the properties are set to run minimised I am returned to the desktop with media center minimised also.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Jez

Re: Network Share Script

Jez,

Dont think its possible to get a process to run in the background as you can in Unix/Linux (use an &). You could try re-starting the eshell process (even though its running) to bring it back into focus after the script, but its a bit messy. You can just press the green button on the remote (if you have one) to do the same thing.

Why would you want to run a script though? If you physically map (tools-map drive) a share to a drive (unless you are using all A to Z) add it to MCE (Videos, MP3`s etc) and Windows will automatically try to reconnect to the share. If its not there, it simply wont show up.

Otherwise, just add the share as a path (again, Videos, music whatever) as \\servername\sharename. That way, you dont waste a mapped drive letter, and it will only connect to the share when its needed.

The only time I use scripts in a non-domain environment, is to map network printers etc.

Dont know if this helps, but good luck anyway.
