I have a need to connect two sites together over a network. Site A is a business and Site B is my house that is >200m from site A. Only problem is that there is moderate forestation between the two sites, preventing perfect line of sight. I can see the building, but complete view is blocked by a few trees.
The only options I could think of where to get 200m of cat 5 and some decent hardware (I remember reading somewhere that it could be done), a very powerful wireless AP with directional antenna, or empty the bank account for some fibre optic and either switches with fibre support or some fibre to RJ-45 converters.
Anyone had an experience like this or any comments to add?

I'm in a similar situation but only 100m between office and home. I use a pair of Trendnets. Results are quite good with speeds in excess of 36mbps indicated and no dropouts, coming of a Netcomm NB9W router/ gateway at the home end. In the office the PC has a Netgear 311t PCI card. I bought the antennae on ebay for about $45.00 AU (auction, not Buy Now).

Seriously though,
How bad is the LOS? Is it better higher up?
If you go for wireless, a couple of these might help: Parabolic Antenna - they are much bigger than you might imagine.

But seriously, that parabolic antenna looks like just what I need. Thanks Logi. Hopefully it should work fairly well. LOS isnt terrible, the building can be seen, just that theres a few branches in the way. I can probably remove those.
