How to view network shares as one Drive/many folders?

Hey everyone
Basically i have a 1TB server with 5 200GB Disks all seperate (backed up onto DVD dont worry )

Anyhoo in MCE from the My Videos section i see:
"\\Fileserver\Filedisk One\"
"\\Fileserver\Filedisk Two\"
So on so forth

I would ideally like it to be:
"Family Guy"
"viva la bam"
"wild boys"
"lost"
e.t.c

IS IT POSSIBLE! in vista or MCE

If you set up the shares correctly on the file server you should at least get close. I don't think you will get rid of the server name though. It would probably look something like below on XP:

Family Guy on Fileserver (G: )
viva la bam on Fileserver (H: )
wild boys on Fileserver (I: )
lost on Fileserver (J: )
etc...

Re: How to view network shares as one Drive/many folders?

In my setup with mce1 as main server it shows as follows on mce 2 and mce 3.

//Mediacentre main > C:/Recorded TV (or the name you choose it to be)
G:/Recorded TV ( Idem above)
E:/Movies

Re: How to view network shares as one Drive/many folders?

so they all have //mediacentre main/ before it?

Im just trying to get rid of this.

I might just make a folder.jpg image to make it easier for me.

No, //MCE main is indicating which machine it is, all the drives on that rig show up as E,G:/whatever you want to name your drive.

My other 2 rigs show up on the server as //MCE2 and //MCE 3 and their individual drives with their specific names.

Re: How to view network shares as one Drive/many folders?

so can you get rid of the name? thats my original point lol im sick of //FILESERV... showing up for all the shares. Can you change the original view to list then the following views to blocks then again to lists like you could in meedio/myhtpc?

Cheers

Re: How to view network shares as one Drive/many folders?

Maybe if you map each drive separately, MAYBE you can change the volume name on it, then go ADD DRIVE/FOLDER ON THIS COMPUTER in MCE...

This approach does fix the problem - and I used it for a while. The downside is that MCE gets very flakey when it thinks there should be a drive there but can't access it (as happens if it is off-line for some reason). Then it refuses to find them when they are there etc. . .

I don't know why, but it is a lot more sensitive to a missing mapped drive than a missing shared drive.

Re: How to view network shares as one Drive/many folders?

Mapping discs works great however you have to bugger around with a script to bring the disks online, like i cbf going into my computer then clicking on the drive to connect it.
