Just a quick question (not exactly a MCE issue), have bought a router (Netcomm NB600W) and have the xbox 360 connected to it. The xbox can connect to the MCE PC and access music, videos TV, online content however when ever I try to connect to xbox live with the xbox, it always fails.
Doing the network test on xbox, it comes up with a MTU failure. I have connected the Xbox directly to my ADSL modem and it connects up to Xbox Live no problems.
I have tried going through all settings on the router to ensure the MTU size is set higher than the minimum MTU the Xbox 360 requires, but can't find any suitable settings. Have also set up port forwarding for xbox live but still fails the MTU test.
Have contacted Netcomm support (email) and yet to receive a response. So just wondering if anybody else has had this problem with their router and if they were able to sort it out.
I'd be hammering them for a firmware update. With Netcomm, it often takes 2-3 people before you get to someone who miraculously discovers a firmware update for your router.
Forget about trying to get it sorted via email BTW - you're going to have to get on the phone.
Justin

I am starting to believe Netcomm are a bit second rate as had a modem from them some time ago and always seemed to need to tweek it or something. Once again, this is just not a polished product.
With this router, I was having troubles getting both the wireless and wired networks going together, stuffed around for a couple of hours even. In the end realised standard resets were not enough, had to power off the modem and then everything worked (well most everything, ie xbox live).
I used a D-Link wireless router for my parents (retired) network and simple as (however didn't try it with the xbox).
I did give Netcomm support a call, but they tried to fob me of saying it was an xbox issue. Unfortunately it is a little hard to talk to Tech Support while at work, while router is at home.
Anyway, guess I feel a sick day coming on - seems to be only way to get some technology to work :-)
Yeah, I had the same experience with them over an ADSL2+ modem. They kept telling me to download the firmware update off their site, but it wasn't there! In fact, my model of modem wasn't even mentioned on the site. I eventually got the update & it's been OK since then.
You shouldn't have any X360 problems with Dlink. I chop & change routers all the time (I test them for my customers) & I have had 3 or 4 different Dlinks since I've had an X360. All have been fine (no extra configuration required).
I'm running a Belkin router at the moment, & it's fine too.

Just looked up a client's Netcomm router for these settings.
The setting for the MTU is in "Internet Port > PPPoE Configuration" under Packet Size. Default is usually 1492. Xbox Live needs at least 1365. I'd try setting the Packet Size to 1365 & then work your way up & see if you can find a setting that works.
If you don't have access to that setting, then you need a firmware update, so that's what you'll have to hit them up for.

Yeah have seen that. With the NB600W, it comes with a pre configeration setup for Telstra Bigpond (which is what I am on) and what I have used.
I have tried to set up a PPoE connection so that I could manually adjust the MTU settings, but that doesn't work, router can't connect up with those settings. The connection I have is a PPPoA or so my ADSL modem from Telstra says and I guess the PPPoE connection settings on the router don't work with a PPPoA type connection.
I have also tried the Cable/DSL connection option on the router and although everything else works, the MTU failure still persists.
I think the only thing is either to wait until a firmware update comes out or get a D-Link wireless router. I should have checked the compatable routers on the Xbox website before I bought. Guess I was naive to think that buying a later model router would simply be ok. Then again it could just be Netcomm!!
I will still have a shot at Netcomm Indian Tech Support Team on Friday and see if they can come up with something.
