Exclamation Connect Wirelessly Without WIFI Adapter. All you need is a Laptop :D

If your tired of seeing a clutter of wires everywhere around your 360 and want to go "wireless", you can, using your laptop.

All thats needed is:
-A laptop (with internal wireless and lan capabilities).
-An ethernet cable (comes with the premium 360. You can pick one up cheap if you dont have one).

*DO NOT CONNECT ANY WIRES UNTIL DIRECTED 2*

-Log into your laptop as admin/owner

-Go to start/control panel/network and internet connections/network connections

-Right click on your wireless network connection and select properties

-When in properties select the advanced tab, and in the area where it says "internet connection sharing" put a check in the box marked "allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection"

*Make sure both your wireless and lan connections are enabled*

-Do not change any other settings when doing this, once you have checked the appropriate box, the box underneath it should already be checked...keep it as it is!

-Restart your laptop.

-[Wait untill your wirelles internet is connected] and then plug your ethernet cord into the back of your 360 and into your laptops ethernet cable port.

-Now turn on your 360 and presto you are now connected to live and have just saved $100+.

The only downside I can see is that your laptop has to be on for the connection to work.

*Note* These are Windows XP instructions. If you are running on another version of Windows you should be able to find instructions here:

Ahhh Supafly, if that's a solution to reduce clutter, then I want whatever you're smoking.

its good if your wireless router is in a completely different room, id rather the laptop next to the tv or on a shelf instead of running cables through the house. lol.

Re: Connect Wirelessly Without WIFI Adapter. All you need is a Laptop :D

I have the wirelwss thing for xbox but imo it snot nearly fast enough. you cannot stream live digital TV over it all att as tis just too slow . I ended up cabling instead and now have flawless connection. Annoying but ho hum.

another idea if you want to clear up some wires is to use that network over power stuff. you get a little plug with a socket for ethernet cable, and plug them into the power and the cable into teh xbox / router and bingo you have network ove your pre existing power. Only downside is they get hot, which probably means they are using heaps of power. Also make sure you get the 80 something Mbps ones not teh 14 as the slow one is not fast enough for live TC either.

anyone want a wifi adapter for xbox 360 ??

I disagree, I have not had any speed troubles what so ever, runs just as fast/well as it did when i had a 40m cable running through the house. lol. The Wii goes great too.

Re: Connect Wirelessly Without WIFI Adapter. All you need is a Laptop :D

really ? mine failed to deliver recorded TV without huge stutters, and also live TV. only using digital not HD.

It was the same if teh roputer was right next to teh xbox or across the house so I gave up and went wired.

and yes sorry for my typos, I was a bit excitable as some kid just rolled his dads 4WD right outside the office

actually I always make horrible typos

Re: Connect Wirelessly Without WIFI Adapter. All you need is a Laptop :D

perhaps there is something in your house causing an interference??? could also depend on your router, etc. How was it on Xbox Live??? if it was crap then too could be your isp or router.

Re: Connect Wirelessly Without WIFI Adapter. All you need is a Laptop :D

I also gave in today and have run a cable to the xbox. It was just too unreliable. My wireless access point was direct line of sight and less than 5m away and still it would stutter every now and then - occasionally freezing for a few seconds.
WIFI was also causing WAFD (WAF declining).
I will be whacking my wireless adaptor on ebay as soon as the permanent cabling is done.
