Few Questions Bout Xbox360 as an Extender?

hey guys!

well i recently just bought a plasma tv to chuck in my room and i am thinking about hooking up my media centre to it (which isnt fully completed yet =P )
anywayz coz i dont want to lug my whole computer into my room i was thinking of buying an xbox 360 to use as an extender.
anywayz i just have a few questions about it...

1. havent set up MCE yet but i do have the tv tuner (hauppauge 150) i was just wondering coz i wont be using media centre on the actually computer and will alwayz be watching in bedroom do i need to buy the windows Media centre remote?

2. does my computer have to be on when i just want to watch tv in my bedroom through xbox?

3. can i use my computer and watch tv at the same time (like can i be watching tv in bedroom then run out to check msn on my computer)

any other info would be great! just want to know if its worth wild getting xbox 360...really wanna watch foxtel in my room soon. =)

thank!
NKG

NKG,

To answer you questions in order:

1. No. Although if you did buy the remote you could use it with the Xbox or the MediaCentre as the 360 recognises MCE remote commands.

2. Yes.

3. Yes.

Too easy!

Re: Few Questions Bout Xbox360 as an Extender?

Thats the same as my setup. I have my MCE in the study which always stays on and then in my bedroom is my 360 works a treat as an extender not to mention playing need for speed carbon, but to be honest I use it 75% media extender, 25% gaming

Re: Few Questions Bout Xbox360 as an Extender?

the only I've found with a similar set-up is that although I can play my archive of ripped DVDs on the MCE (they are ones I own, just like to run them from the Maxtor to avoid fingerprints!) I've yet to find a really good, seamless (7yo-friendly) solution to get them delivered to the Xbox360.
Transcode-360 and TVersity do very good jobs but you lose a lot of the DVD goodness.
But for watching TV and WMV encoded content the solution rocks
