Windows Media Player 11 creating music havoc on Xbox 360

Hi Guys,

Installed WMP 11 on my MCE PC and thought it was great. One feature I really liked was that it could fix a couple album cover issues I had that "Album Art Fixer" just couldn't fix, ie one was that two album covers just wouldn't show on the Xbox when everything else as working fine.

Anyway, went through the process of fixing up album information (so easy now to drop album covers on the album directory with WMP 11) and did "Process Media Information Now" request through WMP on the MCE PC.

Checked the Xbox 360 and all music was gone! No real issue just did a search for music through the Xbox and all the albums were popping up again, covers and all even on the problem ones. Though the real havoc this has created is that every song on the album has been duplicated. So where there were eleven songs, there is now 22. Very annoying having two of every song when you are trying to play an album.

I was hope no one else has encountered this problem however if you have, hopefully you can suggest a solution.

Things I am thinking of -

1. Some how reset the information Xbox keeps regarding music on MCE PC so that I can do a re-search for album on the MCE PC. - Just don't know how to do that.

2. How does the MCE PC store the library info, I assume WMP 11 has changed the library info, and there now exists two library infos on system and the Xbox 360 has picked them both up. (Strange thing is though only one album shows on the Xbox)

3. Maybe wind back the WMP 11 to WMP 10 but don't know if that would fix the problem.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

On a side issue, is there any way you can set the Xbox 360 up so that when you turn it on, it goes to connect with the MCE PC straight away?

Thanks

You'd better get in touch with our member Simbot82. He has put out a warning for using wmp11 with MCE and that it probably would upset the music library. I do not know if he found a solution yet.

Fix all your albums then uninstall it and go back to Media Player 10.

Simple Solution.

My Sister installed MP11 Beta on my laptop and she uninstalled it as quick as it went on there when I found out. BIIIGGG NO NO!

Re: Windows Media Player 11 creating music havoc on Xbox 360

Solution no so simple.

Have uninstalled WMP 11, deleted all music files off MPC and Xbox 360. Wound back to WMP 10, re-installed all music to MPC and library looks fine now on MPC. Xbox 360 still has duplicated files, on most albums, and now some albums have triplicate, go figure!!!

Anyway still thumbling my way around.

Re: Windows Media Player 11 creating music havoc on Xbox 360

I have found alot of similar problems to this over the weekend. Interesting to know that its most likely WMP11, not Vista per-se, and not the xbox360.

If anyone has sorted how to fix problems like this - please let me know.

Re: Windows Media Player 11 creating music havoc on Xbox 360

Internet Explorer 7 also causes some sort of issue with MCE. It erases all the album covers and you just have a songnote on there instead, so like the Chisel album brings up just nothing.

BTW, has anyone found out why each time I use MCE Reset the album covers disappear from about 30 albums (the best ones mind you) and I have to paste them back on? Is there an easier way so they don't get erased, as my tuner f*cks up a lot?

Many thanks

Re: Windows Media Player 11 creating music havoc on Xbox 360

Hi Guys,

Well have downloaded the Windows Media Player 11 for MCE and all seems to work ok now. It took a little while to update the library but ended up being ok after about 30 mins.

I ended up moving all the music to another location on the hard drive so Xbox couldn't access it (deleting the musuc file location on Xbox was never very effective) and deleted all bar 60 ablums. I then set up WMP11 MCE and then added the particular folder on the Xbox.

With the Xbox, the albums are all ok now, no duplication of the songs on the albums etc except for the 60 albums I didn't delete.

Well all those 60 folders still have duplicated songs on them. So my suggestion is to delete all albums from the xbox before adding the new location on the MCE PC. The xbox doesn't seem smart enough to distinguish between the old album details and the album in the new location.

Anyway, pretty much ok now.

Les

The other thing you can do is fix it all up in your normal MCE user WMP database and the copy the WMP database files across to the 360 user profile.

Not really sure how I copy the WMP database files across to the 360 User profile, so would welcome a short instruction on how to do it.
