Hello !
I have 2 medeia centre PCs on the same wired network. I would like to watch the Recorded TV programs from Computer 1 on Computer 2 - I have gone through the Recorded TV programs folder - sharing and permissions menu - and set it to - Shared with Access for all on the network. Problem is though that everytime I try and access this folder from the other computers - says access is denied. I have no other Firewalls etc in the LAN. Any ideas????
I have 3 pc's running in a network, all of then share folders.
Like the previous post states, make sure that little hand is on the shared folder.
However, after adding another Sata drive to mce1 some time ago I had the same problem. Before there was no problem of sharing the IDE drives but then it would not let me access the Sata.
After a created an account and signed in it would let me access the drive.
I have it working by using the following process:-
How to share recordings with multi MCE systems
This will allow you to configure the Recorded TV settings of a secondary MCE box to point to the Recorded TV folder of your main MCE box. In this way, Recorded TV is fully accessible, complete with program descriptions, etc., on a secondary PC. Its like having an extender with no Live TV functionality.
Basically you need to perform steps on both the server PC (the one sharing out its Recorded TV folder) and the host machine(s) (other boxes running XP MCE to which you want to grant access).
Server PC
Open Explorer, Choose Folder Options from the Tools menu, click the View tab, scroll to the bottom and disable Simple File Sharing.
Share out your recorded TV folder. Share it using the name “Recorded TV” (this is important, as otherwise it won’t work). Set the share permissions to “Full Control” for the Everyone group. Then set the NTFS permissions to again give “Full Control” to “Everyone”.
Click Start, Run, and type “gpedit.msc”, then hit OK
Browse to Computer Configuration, Windows Settings, Security Settings, Local Policies, Security Options
Find the entry “Network access: Let Everyone permissions also apply to anonymous users", double click and set to “Enabled”
Click Start, Run, and type “regedit”, and hit OK
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\lanmanserver\parameters
Double click the NullSessionShares key, and add the value “Recorded TV” (without quotes) at the end of the existing entries, then hit OK.
Reboot the server PC.
Host PC
Click Start, Run, and type “regedit”, then hit OK
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Media Center\Service\Recording
Double click the “WatchedFolders” key
Add an additional entry with the full UNC path to the share. For example, add \\mainMCEPC\Recorded TV This line will differ depending on your PC hostname and share path.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\lanmanserver\parameters
Double click the NullSessionShares key, and add the value “Recorded TV” (without quotes) at the end of the existing entries, then hit OK.
Reboot the PC.
Now, when you open Recorded TV on the host systems, it will show the full recorded TV listings from your main MCE box.
One proviso: If you've disabled the Guest account (or disabled anonymous access through another method, such as by editing the local security policy), then this won't work, for obvious reasons.
Thank you NAC for your GREAT description - slight complicating factor though - the second MCE does not have a TV tuner card and hence no "My TV" - this probably would not work then? - I was hoping to use "My Videos" and just add the Primary MCE;s Recorded TV folder as a "watched folder"
There is an mce registry hack utility, I think you will find it in the download section. One of the hacks is a 'fake tuner'. I haven't used it myself, so i don't if it will work, but my understanding is that it should do exactly what you're after.
