Hibernator Localisation. Help me localise to your region!

International users of the Hibernator have most likely discovered that The Hibernator will not work unless the native language of your PC is English. This is due to Windows Locales and the fact that the metric names are different for non English speaking countries.

I am currently looking for a way of automatically using the correct names based on you locale however I am yet to find anything on MSDN to help with this.

To that end I am asking anyone who would like support added for their country to follow the procedure below and provide me with the information I require. I can then release updates to the locale information making this utility useful for all.

Please read the following and feel free to ask questions in this thread if anything is unclear.

Cheers,
Arkay.

What I need to know for v2 is the Object->Counter->Instance Values for your area that are equivalent to the english values:

Processor->% Processor Time->_Total
LogicalDisk->Disk Bytes/sec->_Total
Network Interface->Bytes Total/sec->""

Note that Network Interface above does not have an instance value as I generate these dependant on the network cards in your system at runtime.

I also need to know your Locale (country is probably enough).

I can then add a dropdown box in the config so you can choose the right locale to run with.

The following procedure can be used to collect the required information:

1. Run perfmon from the command line or Start->Run.
2. Select each metric (currently being graphed), in the list on the right hand bottom and remove them (del key).
3. Right click on the graph and select "Add counters".
4. Use the dropdown "Perfmormance Object" to find the right object. e.g "Processor" and select it.
5. Check "Select Counters from list" and choose the correct counter.
6. Check "Select Instances from list" and choose the correct instance. (For the network instance just choose anything available).
7. Add the counter.
8. Repeat the above for the remaining 2 metrics.
9 When all 3 metrics are added usr Cntrl+C to copy the graph properties to the clipboard.
10. Past the properities lines into a text document, along with your Locale information and post it here, I will then add the information to the locales file and make it available as and update download.

I will also have to update the Hibernator to support this (v2.01).

The lines in particular that I need to see are the Counterxxxxx.Path lines. eg.:

<PARAM NAME="Counter00002.Path" VALUE="\\L4445194500\Processor(_Total)\% Processor Time">
<PARAM NAME="Counter00001.Path" VALUE="\\L4445194500\LogicalDisk(_Total)\% Disk Time">

Thanks!

Re: Hibernator Localisation. Help me localise to your region!

Update:

I've finished v2.01 in order to support the above. I don't actually have any data other than Australia in the locale file yet so I won't release it just yet. As soon as I have some feedback from our foreign friends I'll release it as a beta in this thread for those people to try out. Once we have it nailed I'll promote to full release.

Cheers,
Arkay.

Thanks Maltic. Can I get you to clarify those for me a bit. Doesn't make much sense to me as some of the information seems to be missing.

I'll include the format of the Australian locale information here. If you can supply the Germany version for me I'll add it in and make v2.01 available for download for you to test.

Alternately if you can follow the procedure above and cut and paste the metrics to a file I can grab everything I need out of the file.

Australia==Processor::% Processor Time::_Total->Network Interface::Bytes Total/sec::->LogicalDisk:: Disk Bytes/sec::_Total

Are the bits in bold (the object names) the same for Germany?

Thanks.

Cheers,
Arkay.

Sorry, you are right:

Germany==Prozessor::Prozessorzeit (%)::_Total->Netzwerkschnittstelle::Bytes/s::->Logischer Datenträger::Gesamtanzahl Bytes/s::_Total

Re: Hibernator Localisation. Help me localise to your region!

Maltic,

Thanks for that.

I've added the information you supplied.

I won't release this to the public yet, could you please try it out for me.

You can download version 2.01 from here.

When you run it you should be able to select Germany as your Country and click on profile.

If it doesn't work then please attach the log (c:\windows\hibernator.log) so I can check it out.

Thanks for your help!

Cheers,
Arkay.

Re: Hibernator Localisation. Help me localise to your region!

Maltic,

Nope. I don't think it is working.

The results you are getting are way to odd. No disk or network activity at all and your CPU only works in multiples of 10!

The metric names may not be right. For some reason it's not connecting to perfmon to collect the data (and perfmon isn't generating any errors!).

it's very hard to fault find unless I install a machine with a Freman locale.

Can you go through the process in the very first post. Run a local copy of perfmon, remove the "normal metrics" and add the ones as per the instructions the use the copy icon to copy it to the clipbard and paste a file with the contents here. I really need to see what Windows thinks it's doing.

Cheers,
Arkay.

Re: Hibernator Localisation. Help me localise to your region!

Maltic,

Haha.. Wish I had have got you to do this for me first...

Guess what! It's not locale dependant.

Here are the relevant values from your output:

<PARAM NAME="Counter00001.Path" VALUE="\\PC03434\LogicalDisk(_Total)\Disk Bytes/sec">
<PARAM NAME="Counter00002.Path" VALUE="\\PC03434\Network Interface(Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet)\Bytes Total/sec">
<PARAM NAME="Counter00003.Path" VALUE="\\PC03434\Processor(_Total)\% Processor Time">

and here are the same values from my machine:

<PARAM NAME="Counter00001.Path" VALUE="\\BEAST\LogicalDisk(_Total)\Disk Bytes/sec">
<PARAM NAME="Counter00002.Path" VALUE="\\BEAST\Network Interface(Intel[R] PRO_100+ Dual Port Server Adapter _2 - Packet Scheduler Miniport)\Bytes Total/sec">
<PARAM NAME="Counter00003.Path" VALUE="\Processor(_Total)\% Processor Time">

So. Whatever error you were having is not at all related to the fact that you're in Germany.

Can you do me a favour and run the Hibernator up and choose Australia as the country. It should work. Delete the log file first though so we can see wht values you get when you profile.

If it does work then I can scrap v2.01 as it doesn't appear that it's location specific at all It probably just shows the German names in the perfmon gui.

Thanks!

Cheers,
Arkay.
