Missing performance monitor. Hibernator not working

Evidently, after reading through the huge thread in this forum, I see that I am missing a key performance monitor that Hibernator requires to run, % processor time.

The only solution given to date is to reload MCE.

I found this article, KB884558, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884558, that describes the situation exactly (I was fooling with the page file when Hibernator stopped working). The problem is that you have to call Microsoft to get the patch to fix the problem. They havent released it to the general public.

Does anyone know where I can download, or otherwise get the hotfix that they refer to in the article?

Have you tried this:

Quote:
WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, configure your Windows XP-based computer to use a paging file.
Cheers,

Arkay.

Unfortunately, the missing performance monitors didnt come back when I restored the paging file. :-(

Hmm... Not good. I don't have that patch either. You'll have to try and get it out of MS or re-install

Cheers,

Arkay.

Re: Missing performance monitor. Hibernator not working

I'm going to post the answer to my own question.

After Googling around I found this knowledgebase article from Microsoft, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/248993

Performance Object is not Displayed in Performance Monitor

It describes 2 methods of re-enabling the necessary performance monitors needed by Hibernator.

I Googled and downloaded a program called exctrlst.exe. As described in the article, run this program and then find the PerfOS object and check the "enable" box. Thats all I had to do and Hibernator is a happy camper once again, and so am I.

The second method described in the article is basically doing the same thing except doing it manually in the registry. I didnt do it so I can't vouch for it.
