I have been flat out working in a new job, and in house limbo at the moment, so my internet access is somewhat limited. I have been reading tonight that a number of people are having issues setting up FreeXMLTV version 3. There is a helluva lot of miss-information going around, and I thought I would re-post my original instructions for setting up FreeXMLTV 3.1 with BRP v3. These instructions do not apply for setting up any other versions, and if read correctly, and in full they still work for that "10 minute install" everyone has been hunting. I have re-worded it slightly to attempt to make it less confusing (not sure how it ever was) for the end user.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY, SLOWLY AND FULLY, THESE WORK AND ALWAYS HAVE!
Run the BRP v3 Installer without modifying it in any way, any modifications required are covered below.
After succesfully installing BRPv3, download the FreeXMLTV installer from the same Downloads section and you're ready to go.
Follow the FreeXMLTV installer through the setup procedure, and be sure to read the info, it's there for a reason. The default install directory is \WINDOWS\ehome\BladeRunnerPro\GuideData and really should not be changed, as this is integral to the automation of the installation.
On the finishing screen, it will be set to automatically create a scheduled task and open an editor for you to change the parameters of the EPG.bat file, specific to your setup. The defaults are setup to download Melbourne FTA Listings, with full descriptions, and work perfectly as they are. The finish page also has a link to a readme file with a full list of regions and parameters for you to reference in your setup. (Please read this if you are not sure of the functions in FreeXMLTV, it helps)
The creation of a CHANNELINFO file is still required, and can be added as a switch in your batch file without the need to remove it (it will continue to create the file, overwriting the one in the default directory).
The channelinfo.xml file (if you do not already have one setup) will need to be moved from the \WINDOWS\ehome\BladeRunnerPro\GuideData directory to \WINDOWS\ehome\BladeRunnerPro\QuickGuide directory to facilitate channel allocation. You will need to re-execute a guide update ('Update EPG' from start menu) after moving your channelinfo file so that it allocates data to correct channels. If you fail to do this step, you will not see any channels when you get to "Add Listings to Channels".
BladeRunner Pro does not require any more configuration (ie. BRP Configurator) as the FreeXMLTV scheduled task is set to run FreeXMLTV, and then execute BladeRunner for you (this is the line referencing bladerunnerpro.exe in the EPG.bat file that you can edit in the FreeXMLTV installation procedure). To avoid BRP errors, make sure you remove the scheduled task created by the BRP setup. This has been done to remove any confusion. Please do not attempt to run BRP or setup anything in the configurator, as this will give you the false impression that your Guide Data download is not working.
A 'FreeXMLTV' menu has also been added to the Start Menu, with 'Update EPG' (runs the batch file) a copy of the Readme file, and an uninstaller.
N.B: For those of you wanting to upgrade from a previous version of FreeXMLTV, make sure you remove all FreeXMLTV folders and all scheduled tasks, and then run the installer. If you leave your existing CHANNELINFO file in the Quickguide directory, you will not need to create another one.
After this part of the setup is complete, you will need to run the EPG setup within MCE. This is best done by following part B of the BladeRunnerPro setup instructions at http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/brp/partb.html
It depends on what option you want for hd - but it would look something like
Freexmltv region=mel verbose hd1
the channelinfo file would list all the channels - and the secondary list would be the channel name with the suffix of -hd
- That can be created for you via adding channelinfo on the command above !
- Far easier to use version 4 - as it now includes a gui installer that just does it all for you including the creation of the channelinfo file and places everything in the correct locations.

Thanks for taking the time to put this together - but I am unsure of one thing - and I read your post a few times - How do I create a Channelinfo file?
Thanks,

I didn't include explicit instructions for the creation of the Channelinfo.xml file as it is explained in the readme file that you are prompted to read, at the end of the installation file. I only touched on it lightly with these lines

I could redo it to include more explicit instructions, but Impact has released a new version that will completely setup FreeXMLTV for you, try that out instead.
It's version 4, I don't have a link, as I don't have it installed. I have extremely limited Internet access at the moment due to my current living arrangements, so I haven't gotten around to it, which also gives some hint of why this response took so long. I will hopefully be moving in the next 3-4 weeks, and I can then get my Internet hooked up and get back to answering questions more quickly...
Good luck with Version 4, as I highly recommend the use of it, as it automates everything.
