The code and functionality of FreeXMLTV have not changed significantly in this new release, however, there are a few little additions you may find of interest.
Impact <bows.head> has decided to integrate the EPG data a little better into the MCE experience, by adding an EPG Status page off the More Programs Menu.

So, I created a nice little icon, and wrote some code to create a status.html page that can be viewed... but it would be a bit boring to say that Freexmltv completed successfully... what else could I do...
ebroadcast has a web page updated daily showing the picks of the week or highlights, and movies... What a great idea - so I am reformating this page for inclusion on the status page. No requests for changing it, or movie xyz is not listed, or why does it show channel 7 when I don't get channel 7 - I am just showing you the content of external web page that none of us control the contents...
The major change in this release, is the inclusion of an installer. Now you can install your favourite data grabber as easy as you install all of your other Applications!!
FreeXMLTV still requires importing into MCE, so what better program to rely on than BladeRunner Pro (v3). You still need to go through to normal installation of BladeRunner Pro (available in the Downloads section of this forum) and then the FreeXMLTV installer will configure the rest for you.
After succesfully installing BRPv3, download the FreeXMLTV installer from the same Downloads section and you're ready to go.
Follow the installer through the setup procedure, and be sure to read the info, it's there for a reason. The default install directory is \WINDOWS\ehome\BladeRunnerPro\GuideData and really should not be changed, as this is integral to the automation of the installation.
On the finishing screen, it will be set to automatically create a scheduled task and open an editor for you to change the parameters, specific to your setup. The defaults are setup to download Melbourne FTA Listings, with full descriptions, and work perfectly as they are. The finish page also has a link to a readme file with a full list of regions and parameters for you to reference in your setup.
The creation of a CHANNELINFO file is still required, and can be added as a switch in your batch file without the need to remove it (it will continue to create the file, overwriting the one in the default directory). This file (if you do not already have one setup) will need to be moved from the \WINDOWS\ehome\BladeRunnerPro\GuideData directory to \WINDOWS\ehome\BladeRunnerPro\QuickGuide directory to facilitate channel allocation. You will need to re-execute a guide update (Update EPG from start menu) after moving your channelinfo file so that it allocates data to correct channels.
BladeRunner Pro does not require any more configuration (BRP Configurator) as the FreeXMLTV scheduled task is set to run FreeXMLTV, and then call BRP for you. To avoid BRP errors, make sure you remove the scheduled task created by the BRP setup.
A menu has also been added to the Start Menu, with Update EPG (runs the batch file) a copy of the Readme file, and an uninstaller.
I hope these instructions are clear enough to get us through until Falcc gets his (much clearer, I must say) PDF Installation Guide ready to go. If there are any questions, don't hesitate to ask, they will be answered by someone as quickly as we have come to expect from this forum...
N.B: For those of you wanting to upgrade from a previous version of FreeXMLTV, make sure you remove all FreeXMLTV folders and all scheduled tasks, and then run the installer. If you leave your existing CHANNELINFO file in the Quickguide directory, you will not need to create another one.
Here's hoping this new version of FreeXMLTV combined with BRPv3 makes setting up an EPG in AUS as easy as it should be.
Great work as usual guys. I don't foresee upgrading just yet since I've really got myself into the hands off mode now with stuff that just works but I'll definitely install next time I get a breakage (unless I just happen to feel particularly brave or bored or both one night.). Anyway I'm sure it works smoothly and reps all round for a great job.
Fixes the problem that the status page data had changed format and caused an error. Until a new installer is available, install 3.0 as per above, then grab the 3.1 freexmltv.exe zip file from the thread link here and overwrite the freexmltv.exe file in c:\windows\ehome\bladerunnerpro\guidedata
Enjoy

You can simply install it directly over the top. It only updates files it needs to (ie. the FreeXMLTV.exe file mentioned in the above post. It should also keep your existing epg.bat file, make sure you confirm this when it prompts you to edit it at the end of the installation. It will also try to re-create the scheduled task, but will not replace any you already have, so you're safe there too.
Hopefully it works liek any other upgrade. Let me know if it doesn't
OK i have been playing with EPG for a while now and htis has me stumped. Installed new version BRP-> installed 3.1 freexmltv->ran freexmltv with PER,HD2,CHANNELINFO
Did you copy the channelinfo file into the c:\windows\ehome\bladerunnerpro\quickguide folder ?
And once you did that - you will find that you need to run bladerunnerpro once more, so it can read and use that file to setup the channels... After this, you no longer need the channelinfo paramater - its done for life, and everytime brp runs it will grab it !
