Thumbs up iPOD

Hi guys - been playing around and created this little MCE app - thought some of you might like it... or not...

I called it iPOD

Nope - its got nothing to do with anything of a similar name that uses MP3's - its just an acronym...

Impact's Picture Of Day -> Shortened to iPOD

There are a few web sites around that display images / pictures / graphics that change daily - one of my favorites is the Astronomy Picture Of The Day run by Nasa - so I started here, then added Kodak, Flickr, and a joke site... I have a couple more to add later.

But thought I'd pass it on for a few more to play with - so here is Beta iPOD v0.5

Let me know what you think, or other ideas to include - especially any fav sites you may know of....

I still have a few things to do;
- correctly or best size the images - there is a small chance an image may go over the edge - although I aint seen it do it thru my testing of the last week
- new front page
- add forward / back buttons to scroll thru the Astronomy site
- add refresh button for flickr as it will give you a different pic each time you enter
- fix some colors / buttons
- add your site suggestions....

Just install the attached file contained in the zip - then go to MCE / More Programs and select Daily Pics

Enjoy !

Re: iPOD

Hey Impact,

Good APP, Look forward to the tweaks your working on. Like the name...

FYI - Installer didn't drop the .mcl file into more programs. I just copied ipod.mcl into \documents & settings\all users\start menu\accessories\media center\media center programs (for those who have same issue)

Later,

Nudge

Re: iPOD

Mongrel - I hate installers... first time I really tried one - tested it one machine and it worked... Oh well - you all know what to do with that mcl file now!!!

Re: iPOD

cheers impact couldnt wait until i got home to try it so i just ran "C:\Program Files\ImpactSoft\iPOD\iPOD.htm" to get a feel for it, i am behind proxy here and i can tell you this version does work behind a proxy, but you still have to supply credentials of course...

was going to have a look at how you did this, but the code looks kinda obfuscated, is that intentional?

looks great btw

Thats good - thought it might not, but knew how to fix it better, so the credentials were passed - so lets see in the next version if it works better for you...

Never - Not really - Yes - obfuscated whats that ---- Lol....
I was more curious than anything to see if MCE would complain about doing it... Will it stay that way in the next version - maybe / maybe not...

I have a few more sites to add - half a dozen or so... Found some interesting Aussie stuff too - webcams around the cities and coast... But I am reluctant to include those in this app - as I want this one to remain something of interest to the general public anywhere...

But I have started on the webcams - so look out for....

iAusVoyer <- for those voyers out there that want to look at webcams, this will be for you... I have each region down the side navigation bar, and along the top are the cameras available.... (You Surf nuts might like this one - as there appears a few of those around)...

A couple of things this program does, which is nothing that great really - took me around 40 hours off and on to work out... trial and error... experimenting... And in the past when I have asked the community of some developers about MCE specifics - its been a bit tight lipped... So I was hesitant to part with the inner workings of what I have done - UNTIL I finished it off a little more.
Amazingly - once you work it out, it becomes simple...

I am not one to want to hide what or how things work, and certainly will be sharing all I know - I just wanted to a) try it, and b) give me a chance to finish some things....

Re: iPOD

Not much interest on this one eh?

Oh well new version will come out next week (most of my apps receive an update next week or so....)

A couple of improvements to iPOD - some more picture sources, a couple of errors fixed and it will always scale the picture appropriately to fill whatever resolution your running....

Last chance - if you know a good site that continually changes pictures daily and what it included, leave a msg here or pm me....

going .... going.....
