iWeather - Expression of Interest

Some of you guys may know that I have been writing my first plugin for MCE... Well it has been on and off for months - some weeks having no time to play with it, other weeks (like this week) having made huge progress..

Lets be honest - its still some weeks away from Beta, and I'll advise you all further of this, when the time comes....

Anyway - my first plugin I am calling iWeather - i for Impact - hehehehe....

Not another weather plugin.... Yep - but this one is for specifically only Aussies (sorry NZ)... and uses source data that is more accurate and timely compared to other international sites...

So - I am just canvessing what features you would like to see - I wont promise they get included, but just looking for feedback.

Presently - as I see it the following options are available;

Local Forecast: Showing your region (Melb / Syd etc) - forecast data High / Low for the next week
Local Current: The current local temperature, humidity, rain, pressure, wind, etc. moon, tides, sunrise / sunset
Local Radar: Animated picture of rainfall as per radar
Local Satellite: Satellite Pic of your area

National Forecast / Current / Radar / Satellite - as per above but showing capital city data.

Extremes :- Current Highest / Lowest temp in Aus, wettest and dryest place

I think thats a pretty exhaustive list, dont think I have missed too much - btw, I have 3 of the above items working.... Just need time...

Your thoughts on this?

Re: iWeather - Expression of Interest

I know yours has an Aussie focus, but what about an international comparison of major cities-

As an expat pom I would like to know that as I melt in Brisbane, my mates are freezing there bits off back home

Thats just me being nasty really isnt it.

Lightbulb Re: iWeather - Expression of Interest

Just a quick thought on regional info... I was travelling to the Sunshine Coast in QLD a few weeks back, and couldn't find weather info for that region on www.bom.gov.au.

So, I think the region thing is a good idea, especially if you can include the non-capital regions like Gold Coast, Sunshine coast, NSW Central coast etc.

Plus, places where people are likely to go for holidays, like the snow, Cairns etc.

You could also do Darwin, which would be easy because it's ALWAYS 31 degrees!

Good luck!

Re: iWeather - Expression of Interest

Impact,

Could I suggest having the 7 days forcast summarised on one page. A quick glance to see what it is like now (in caes the window is too far ) and what the next few days will be like.

Re: iWeather - Expression of Interest

A couple of great ideas guys... I forgot about things like snow.... hmmm.... Wonder even if I could find a webcam too ???

Regional stuff - well I can only show what info I can find... so maybe some regions will be aok, others... if I cant find it - well...

Yes the 7 day forcast appears on one page - actually the page looks boring as there is too little info on it.... I got to jazz it up a little somehow ? ! ?

Check out the look of Mcextended's weather plugin, very clean and easy on the eye.

Unfortunately uses weather.com for info.

Re: iWeather - Expression of Interest

This sounds great Impact...can't wait to try it out.

An accurate (well, more accurate ) weather forcast plugin that can be quickly viewed from within the MCE interface will be great. I can't think of any more features than the ones mentioned but I probably will once I see it on the screen.

Cheers

Sambooka

Re: iWeather - Expression of Interest

No problems - Sambooka...

Circuit - Yep have tried them all... The 7 day on the one screen is very important - and is already working...

Look and Feel - very basic... Might not be as polished as some of the other weather plugins - but I can change the look and feel over time once its all working. One of the things I am struggling with in the look and feel is the background color... The native blue MCE does not look good with some text and graphics...
ie. Phases of the moon - A graphic of the moon showing white and black, when its a new moon (like on the weekend) the image is completely black, and very hard to see against the MCE blue...

So in the first release, layout and look and feel may not be that crash hot ! But the info will be there and easily accessible.

Oh and unfortunately - I have 4 * 3 - few months and I will move to 16 * 9 - but initially have no responsibility on how it will look on a 16 * 9 display - happy for feedback and comments and can fix this over time too !!!

Now I hae it working under MCE - primitive - I'm hooked on it - and just want to do more... heheheh - its fun !

Re: iWeather - Expression of Interest

Another suggestion are you able to put it on the main menu, makes it a bit more to hand.

Sounds great to have an Australian source too.
