Warning !! Web usage

I think i have figured out where my phantom usage figures on bigpond have come from, the EPG guide ...

I had clocked up over the last few days 3Gig early in the morning.
I am using bladerunner / freexml versions of about 3 weeks sgo.

The clue was when i ran EPG.bat manually (as my guide is empty)
it kept on clocking up days which i aborted somewhere in 2007 !!

I will need to fix things up this weekend .

I thought i was safe because i "turn off my pc" ..
well i think what happens is the scheduler might wake it up at 2am
to get the updates .

>> Anyway, i raise this as a warning to others to check your IP traffic

Re: Warning !! Web usage

Correct me if I am wrong but it is not actually downloading anything though.

Just trying to get the data.

I believe 9msn put dummy data for all those future dates (or rigged it so that if you put in an invalid future date, it just used default data from current guide) so it actually did download guide data...

Re: Warning !! Web usage

My guide is still working... and has been working without fuss since I set it up. The WAF is high, all recordings record, no "junk/dummy" data causing huge downloads, and if there are any niggly issues it's just a quick mail to get it sorted.

Of course... I use IceTV.

Regards,
Shane.

Re: Warning !! Web usage

Well if I paid as much as you do for a TV guide I would want it to work also.

Now go away.

Re: Warning !! Web usage

bugger em, i got bandwidth to burn

hmmm i wonder, if we get about 1000 users of freexmltv, if they all pull down 10gb of false guide data each, hmmm thats about 10TB of bandwidth wasted, ouch thats gotta upset their web provider a little

Re: Warning !! Web usage

Mine was 6gb one day, then 3gb, then 3gb again. Not enough to really hurt but still very annoying.

Oh - and for the cost of a coffee a week, it's really not much at all - much better than pulling my hair out. I guess it's how you justify things...

Stealing something because you think it should be free is still stealing.

Thanks,
