New package available at EPGStream

http://forum.epgstream.net/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=500

XMLTV guidepack, nice, easy to use installer package tha includes everything to get your guide working.

Now all we need is support for TV Pack

Re: New package available at EPGStream

Installs, and then insists on a donantion to enable all features. Gets info from Oztivo and sells is for profit. Seems to be a theme now, get this free thing, we even call it FreeEPG and make a forced donantion. Shouldnt Oztivo get the donantion if anyone ?

How about a more constructive post rather than a skewed hand grenade? By saying what you've said, you have no idea of how much effort we put into this type of work and keeping this small part of the community going.
  • We do not sell ozTiVo data.
  • The Free*EPG guide service is totally different to these XMLTV: Guide Pack tools.
  • Users are not forced to make a donation. We only ask users to make a donation if they like our software ... If you only want to donate $1 then this installation package, configuration wizard, online support and software is a bargain.
  • Our XMLTV: Download application works with multiple guide services, not just ozTiVo.
  • Our XMLTV: Download application, donation or not, will download all XMLTV data from ozTiVo without restriction.
  • Our WMC: Guide Service Proxy application works with any XMLTV file from any source.
  • Our WMC: Guide Service Proxy application, donation or not, will process and load all your XMLTV data into Windows Media Center.
  • The features that are enabled by donating are all value added features and are not required for your downloading and loading operations. Parental Controls, Channel Editing, Media Center Category Editing, etc. are all deemed as frivolous extras.
  • Any users who have helped us out with a donation in the past automatically get access to all features when they register.
  • The donations we get go into funding new development tools, equipment, web hosting, installers and any other resources we need.
  • Using the XMLTV: Guide Wizard, when a user select's ozTiVo as their guide source they are given a link to ozTiVo and prompted with "ozTiVo is a community driven XMLTV guide source. Countless volunteers input and correct the TV listings so visit their website and see how you can help!".

There is no doubt that users should either visit ozTiVo and help maintain the guide listings or offer resources or donations to them too. Just remember that we're just another link in the EPG chain that needs support to things going and users' lives "uncomplicated".

Not every person donates, but to those few who do, they are helping to support the Media Center community in general.

Re: New package available at EPGStream

Congrats banger on a well conceived and well executed update!
The amount of extra pleasure your EPG service provides cannot be converted to a $$ amount, without it and of course the paid service from IceTV, we'd have nothing to talk about as far as EPGs in Oz are concerned.

I'm currently trialling the XBMC front-end and therefore don't use an EPG, although I used yours once my first subscrption to IceTV expired and whilst theirs is a great product, frankly I preferred the look & feel of yours - and it's free!

Can you please post a direct donation link under this post - I'd like to "kick the tin" because I'm guessing that if everybody who uses your product gave you a dollar to cover your time, and let's assume for a second that you spend 25 hours a week of your free time (more probably), in the last twelve months you'd have been working to provide us all with this great service for around $5.00 and hour which I believe is below McDonalds hourly rate for a pimply 15 year old to sweep the floor.

Now if we recognise that you've been going for what - 2 years?? - mmm - $2.50 an hour - shame on you!! I can see that you're going to get seriously rich out of this little endeavour.
Mike - Great Job!

Re: New package available at EPGStream

I looked here and found the install guide but the Additional Documentation link appears to be dead.
Does/did it contain any vital info?

Re: New package available at EPGStream

As someone with a preliminary knowledge of computer skills and appreciating the plug and play generation I am more than indebted to epg stream for providing a truly user friendly product and service. From my understanding you are able to access all the functions except a few add ons including the scheduling of the downloads it is a usable tool. I gladly paid a donation for the tireless work that many people do here especially epg stream. Further, this new package I understand was really for the foxtel updates for the guide. Now if people are happy to pay for a cable subscription - a few cents one off doesn't seem that much of a cost.

A few months ago many people got over precious about a forum that Mike was about to earn a few dollars for as a result of his hard and very earnest work. I would prefer to pay what I can to this very few people who are providing a high quality service for little return.

If we really want to fell ripped off I suggest we all sign up for Fox HD pay a premium for HD free to air channels and 4 fox channels. Come on people lets support the guys who I appreciate are making my life so much easier.

Re: New package available at EPGStream

Was no offence intended, I think the product is fantastic and the Media Center experience wouldnt be as good with out it, further more, I dont mind paying, just hate nag type set-ups that force people to pay annoy the **** out of me.

One Australian Dollar heading you're way, dont spend it all at the same place , just joking lol.

Re: New package available at EPGStream

I seem to be having MAJOR problems getting the new EPG to play nice.

Several FTA channels in Melbourne are showing No EPG data.

I used to have the old software to do the guide but I just reformatted and cannot find it anywhere (does anyone know how to get it?).

Unless I can get this new one running up to scratch I don't think I will be donating anything at all.
