Guide download stuck at 0%

Started happening a couple days ago, the guide update in the systray would just sit at 0% forever, and if I right-click and try to cancel, nothing happens, and then media centre tells me to restart. So I tried setting up the guide from the start again, and at the download stage, it gets to 3 dots and stops.
What ze devil??

EDIT:
Also, scanning for channels takes ages and finds none, though my antenna cable is in correctly.
Tried renaming the EPG registry key, did nothing. Tried reinstalling free*epg, did nothing. System date/time are synchronised.
I only just reinstalled Windows a few days ago and I'd really rather not do it again...!

EDIT2:
Installed the TV program for my tuner card, AverTV, and that picks up the channels fine so it must be something within MCE that's now refusing to find them.
