Newbie wanting to understand how it works.

Hi.

I'de like to understand the basics infrastructure of EPG's - and what my options are.

For starters I have installed the Free*EPG client, and configured my Media Center to use ozTivo FTA.

But what does this all mean ?

As I understand it:

(1) there is a 'grabber' - some software that automatically downloads the program guide from some source.

(2) there is some other piece of software that updates the SQLLite database (?) in MediaCenter.

First question: Do I have this concept right ?

so..

- Which program is the 'grabber' in my case ? and which program updates MC database ?
(is it the EPG client program I installed that is doing both ?)

- Where do the download files go ?

- What is Bladerunner Pro ?

- what is xmltvDownload.exe ? - I know I can use it to download an XML file with channel and programming info. - If I use xmlDownload.exe, does it need to be paired up with another program to update MC ?

I do not need specific answers to these questions, but an overview of the whole mechanism.

Thanks

Re: Newbie wanting to understand how it works.

basically the free epg changes the url (universal resource locater) where MEC download the guide from, to there web page. There url mimics the M$ one however it has guide data for AUS

if u use FREE EPG u don't need a graber, blade runner pro or xmltvDownload.exe.

im sure theres a tutorial on the free EPG web page.
