I would like to express how my Wife Approval went down recently because we are relying on the Guide to record our series, or we were I should say. We are now only using the Guide as a reference then setting up Manual recording for the given timeslot as the Guide information is not reliable enough.
An example was Sunday night, the aussie dancing show was called "So you think you can dance Australia", then on Monday night it was called "So you think you can dance", without the Australia, therefore my wife missed out on her show. As we didn't get time to setup the recording for the NEW title, we also missed out on Monday nights recording.
We love the idea of the Guide and how easy it is to record things, but from now no we unfortunately will only use it for reference and not for it's FULL purpose
If anyone can suggest a way to make it better for us please let me know.
Cheers
P.S. until we get our Microsoft Support with people PAID to make efficient guides then I guess we can't do much.

I'm guessing since FreeEPG relies on the data entered in OzTivo that may crop up on occasion. Obviously someone entered it with the Australia and someone else without.
Unfortunately, apart from checking to see if the shows are called the same there is not much you can do as it does rely on people.
The commercial IceTV would probably be able to handle this better, as they would have strict rules on their data entry procedures when providing the guide, but they're not perfect either.
I'm also having similar trouble. Some shows have 'and' and other times its '&'. CSI for example is sometimes 'CSI: NY' and other times its "CSI: New York"
its annoying to have to be so vigilant.. but beggars can't be choosers I guess.
Tell her that the PC recognises that the show is unedifying and therefore refuses to record it. Also, the only reason it would be worth watching it is because of Natalie Bassingthwaite, and well, she looks like she's had a hard year.
One way around this type of problem is to setup a recording using a search term.
I have one for "4400" and another for "Avengers". So whenever any show with the string "4400" or the string "Avengers" in the title appears in the guide, it will get recorded (eg. "The 4400", "4400" and "The 4400 [HD]" will all get recorded.)
Use the "Add Recording" option (under Recorded TV) and then setup a search on the Title field. beastytech - in your case you could search for "dance" and all shows with "dance" in the title would get recorded.
To be honest me and the missus couldn't do without the guide, especially with all of the old favourites coming back on. It was just reassuring to know that I didn't need to keep looking out for when Desperate Housewives would return as the media centre would just pick it up.
This for me is worth foregoing a coffee a week.
EDIT - meant to add as well that I really like being able to read the TV Guide that comes with the SMH on a Monday at my desk at work and program the media centre to record using Ice's Remote feature from my work computer.
For the minor inconveniences that a Free EPG sometimes has, I would put my vote behind Free*EPG anyday.
My opinion is formed by the following interaction with IceTV:
I was evaluating IceTV back in November 2007 and emailed a question to the support email service about tuner setup and IceTV Interactive (the web service was scheduling random recordings) . I got a response today... (yes, that's today the 8th February 2008)!
I simply can't justify rewarding a company that, during one of the most critical phases of user product acceptance (that is the evaluation phase), took nearly 3 months to acknowledge my email. After all, when you're business is primarily selling metadata, you would think that support and customer satisfaction would have to be pretty high up on your priorities list, right?

Sorry to hear about your problems with scheduling "So You Think You Can Dance Australia" ... It's actually quite entertaining and I could understand the disappointment with missing out!
We do actively check and correct a lot of our data (Free*EPG feed), even after it has been checked by ozTiVo.net, but occassionally things do slip through, and those do tend to be new series. I believe in this case there may have been some confusion between the new Australian version and the American version (from about November 2006?).
Unfortunately we won't have a 100% accurate guide in Australia until all the TV Networks agree to making it available for download to digital recording devices.

Hi,
Sounds like you are using our ozTiVo.net feed instead of our Free*EPG feed. We pay quite a bit of attention standardising the "AND vs AMPERSAND" and abbreviations.
