Free*EPG compatible desktop recording schedule?

I know that IceTV have a Yahoo Widget that sits on your desktop and shows you what programs are coming up (now and next) for each channel associated in your guide.

I'm just wondering if there is a similar application out there which is compatible with Free*EPG?

I ask because every night, before closing down the PC, I need to start up VMC, go to the guide and scroll to about 1pm to see if there are any pending recordings. It would be super if there was a pending recordings widget/application that could tell you at a glance whether you had any schedules pending.

It's only a minor thing but it would be very cool to have this available for Free*EPG users.

As usual keep up the excellent support and service you provide, Free*EPG. Top Marks.

You could install the Webguide gadget. It shows a few things, scheduled recordings being one of them.

Re: Free*EPG compatible desktop recording schedule?

if you go to TV (menu)/scheduled it will show your scheduled recordings....
why bother scrolling thru the guide or adding a potentially destabilising extra app?

What's your reason for doing this?

Just put the PC to sleep regardless, it will wake up if a recording is required and then go back to sleep afterward. (Assuming you have S3 sleep setup in the Bios and the various power settings in windows set correctly).

Hi AdrianW

Sounds great in theory but I am really reluctant to do this as I have had system stability issues if I leave the PC on for anything more than a couple of days.

If I am relying on VMC to record stuff for me without fail (while I am away for about 3 weeks), I only feel comfortable if the PC is turned off daily. If I get a system lockup or another issue, the PC is on, but serving no real purpose and not doing what I want it to - namely reliably recording TV while I'm not able to watch it.

Am I paranoid? Perhaps. Does it result in a (pretty) reliable VMC? For sure! Resetting every day means that if there is a problem, it is usually rectified by a reboot. If it was in hibernation mode, and hung, a reset is the only thing that will save you there (from my experience).

Another reason is that the PC is still chewing power for no real reason while it is in low power state. With a 700w power supply installed it is still chewing power as the PSU converts the power. Although the power draw is limited because all the drives, cards, process are running on little power, the hit is still there. Over a year, it all adds up

Hi spaceman

While this is an easier way to get to the guide info while VMC is running (thanks for the tip BTW) when I am just about to shut down the PC I usually don't have VMC running. So this method still requires VMC to be started, scroll to tasks, click on TV, click on scheduled.

Without VMC running, I don't really consider this to be any faster than starting VMC, going straight to Guide, and scrolling quickly through using the right arrow key looking for any red recording dots. All but one channel is displayed in the view when I open the guide so it is a pretty reliable way of doing the manual check for me. For others, it may be a different story.

Have you had a bad experience with WebGuide on your system?

This little app works very well indeed. It doesn't seem to be resource-intensive and I can see at a glance what schedules are pending. Thanks again dgaust.
