I have always been a bit disappointed with how slow an application is launched in any OS (Linux and Windows) and especially the page loading speed (or lack of it) of webbrowsers. Opera helped a bit with page loading but starting it up makes no difference with other browsers.
This is up until now. Last week, after installing Linux Elive Alpha 1.81, I was surpised by the speed this E17 Linux oriented desktop opened windows or applications. Yesterday I stumbled across another Linux lightweight desktop called LXDE. LXDE is a standalone desktop environment like Gnome, KDE, XFCE, E17 etc...that can be ported on most Linux OS.
I put this LXDE desktop on top of a fresh install gOs Gadgets OS as a second desktop environment. Not only does it open all applications faster than I have ever seen before, pageloading is also much faster than in any other OS/desktop.
How it can be so much faster I do not know but this is a keeper.

I followed this simple guide to install it with gOS Gadgets (Hardy 8.04).
