Re: NEW Beyonwiz out now

there is some information on channelnews.

Not sure if you need to signup to read it:

http://www.channelnews.com.au/Home_C...Boxes/C5W6J4R6

Basically they are saying they have a new chipset:

" The reason that PVR manufactures have not been able to implement this feature in the past is that it is almost technically impossible to achieve using the current PVR chip-sets. We have developed a new Chipset and a digital encoder that allows us to do this".

They say you can also network multiple Beyonwiz machines together and share recordings etc. Not sure if this was possible previously?

Re: NEW Beyonwiz out now

Ahh, Jai marketing/sales-speak :-)
The P2 has the same core chipset as the P1, but with the LiDiC built into the unit. The LiDiC is the thing with the chipset used to record from AV inputs, and pumps out a suitable transport stream which the Sigma Designs EM8623L is quite capable of reading just fine.
All Beyonwiz's have had the capability of working together before, with WizPNP servers and clients built in to each one (except the DP-H1 which only has a client). But in the same room was not so good before, with only one remote code set previously supported.
Regards

Re: NEW Beyonwiz out now

Neat device however I see 3 major flaws:

1/ no Foxtel/select TV EPG = manual timers need to be set just like a VCR!

2/ It cant control a foxtel/select tv STB via IR (like the series 1 TiVo's do) the STB must have a timer set too or be on the correct channel!

3/ recording from analogue efectively disables 1 digital tuner from recording leaving you only able to record 1 DTV channel while watching a previous recording or record analogue + watch live DTV (at least that is how I read it).

Personally, if I were ever going to get foxtel again I'd just get the STB + build a Series 1 Tivo for it.
