Thumbs up Big Brother Axed? Please Let It Be True!

Is reality TV show Big Brother finally over?

Quote:
THE Ten Network has axed reality TV show Big Brother, according to several online reports.

"Big Brother Australia has been officially axed, with Channel 10 holding a media embargo on the announcement until midnight tonight," fan website behindbigbrother.com reported today.

The site quoted a Big Brother website administrator, known as Lulu-b, who posted an announcement on the official Big Brother discussion forums.

"Hi everyone, I can confirm Big Brother won't be renewed on Channel 10 in 2009," Lulu-b said on the bigbrother.com.au site this afternoon.

"A statement with more information will be forthcoming," the post said.

Behindbigbrother.com reported: "Our sources inside the Big Brother compound tell us the announcement was unexpected for the BB producers, who did what they felt was in the best interests of the show and believed this year would be a season benchmark."

NEWS.com.au is seeking comment from Channel 10.

The show's ratings have been poor since radio jocks Kyle and Jackie O replaced previous host Gretel Killeen as the faces of this year's series.

Big Brother was even beaten in the ratings by Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan's Budget speech in May.

Ratings bounced back to more than 1.4 million this week with the appearance on Wednesday of former Playboy Bunny Pamela Anderson.

However in past years the show regularly pulled more than two million viewers on Eviction night episodes.
But what tripe will they replace it with?

Yeah intermingled with endless Big Brother Revisited Specials - The Naughty Bits.

etc
etc
etc

How very sad, but then again it's easy, just don't watch Ch10, hard to think of anything they have that is actually any good. EXCEPT for Flight of the Conchords, which is pure brilliance IMHO.

Cheers

Re: Big Brother Axed? Please Let It Be True!

Hi There!

I'm a new member as of tonight... celebrating my birthday and now the axing of BB! Hoo-bloody-ray! Hehehe!

What will they replace it with, who knows -- mediocre is what our free-to-air networks specialize in, at least in prime-time.

Channel Ten has fumbled many decent shows, "The Shield" being a good example, "Battlestar Gallactica" is another. At least since the HD channel went online there's a home for them. I've been watching "Dexter" as I write and enjoying it immensely, though I wish it was in HD. I also enjoy "Flight of the Conchords".

Channel Nine is also pretty awful, burying great shows like "Curb Your Enthusiasm", "The Sopranos" and the genius that is "The Wire".

At the end of the day, all I can say is THANK GOD FOR BOX SETS OF DVDS.

Cheers
Tone

Do they show the original BSG?
Last episode of Dexter S2E12 was on 16 Dec 2007.
Just kidding they show old shows all the time.

On a serious note - really happy about Big Brother. Common sense prevails.

Hahaha -- I wish! That'd be hilarious... especially if they screened the short-lived series where they're on Earth. Now THAT'S comedy!

A big "Hear Hear" from me. No more having to explain to my kids why channel 10 is broken at that time of night.

Re: Big Brother Axed? Please Let It Be True!

The show's ratings have been poor since radio jocks Kyle and Jackie O replaced previous host Gretel Killeen as the faces of this year's series.

or the poor ratings could be caused by the quality of the show ever since BB08 started they have been desperate to get ratings and have been throwing other celebrities in to try and get more people to tune in.
I enjoyed watching the adds when they would try and make the smallest event seem like the biggest thing in TV history.

The funny part is that now we will know for sure that a crap show is about to get canned, cause Jackie'O will start hosting it!
