Large Hadron Collider

Large Hard-on Collider
Being trained in particle science, as I was - this thing is really gets on my nerves. Scary, don't believe what they tell you. Micro black-holes are created casually in the universe.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_Hadron_Collider
If they will be able to recreate a small wormhole(micro) it will consume, and consume and it will grow. Then it will consume all of us - in theory
Can they just leave me out of this crazy experiment?

Re: Large Hadron Collider

hey Vlad

I`ve been following this for a while - fascinating stuff but a bit scary if you believe what you read....

I do really get irritated though by mans arrogance in thinking we know all there is about science - this experiment to basically " see what would happen " is scary stuff though I agree that we are unlikely to get sucked in to a black hole.....hopefully

Re: Large Hadron Collider

Hi Jaiidan,
That is the point - human arrogance, thank you.
In Uni they were telling me that muons colliding could create magnetic anomalies which could be the source of micro-wormholes. Now they do it.

Re: Large Hadron Collider

When Soviets have decided to explode the Tsar-Bomb
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsar_bomb
Initial agenda was to get 100MT, but Andrei Sakharov, was scared about the fact that it could start to consume the oxygen and go on, consuming all oxygen we have - so he told that 50Megatons will be OK to scare capitalists During the explosion the energy released was 15% more than design - oxygen?
Who will be a smart guy now?

That bomb have produced:
Since 50 Mt is 2.1×1017 joules, the average power produced during the entire fission-fusion process, lasting around 39 nanoseconds, was about 5.4×1024 watts or 5.4 yottawatts. This is equivalent to approximately 1.4% of the power output of the Sun.

I don't want that collider to start, really.

Re: Large Hadron Collider

Awesome stuff Vlad... I can tell you would be a fascinating character to have a beer with

I like the names that they come up with for these new phenomena and particles... "strangelets" is just a classic

As for mans arrogance - its like the alien/ufo debate...whatever your views are it stands to reason that we can`t be the only intelligent life in this massive universe but the general scientific view is " cant go faster than light therefore no one can visit us etc etc " ... who says we cant go faster than light - thats our understanding as we know it - stands to reason a more advanced civilization has other ideas! ......and thats assuming the`re from our dimension...

Gotta stop rambling now or I`m gonna lose any credibility I may have in this forum

J

Credibility we have here is due to helping other people. If we talk rubbish in between, who cares?

Re: Large Hadron Collider

Just to legitimise this thread.
If we stick my VMC in the collider, do you think we can get it to stop doing the "display adapter stopped working and recovered" dance? I'm pretty sure the collider will be up and running before Nvidia get Vista friendly drivers for my setup.

Regardless of the fact the collider may be a mistake, from what i've seen, you've gotta admire the engineering.

Re: Large Hadron Collider

I must be getting dyslexic. When I first scanned the title of this thread I read the d and r in Hadron in the reverse order and got an entirely wrong impression of the content.

Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will.

But seriously - Size matters not.
Strong forces are not the things we want to play with.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strong_force

By the way, for all who has no idea what hadron is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hadron

This thing leads us to a bomb, with magnitude of billion of nuclear bombs, or to an artificial wormhole.
Why??? Could we make a world peace first?
Or at least understand the wave properties of a peace particle
