I am excited: browser war on the horizon

During the last few weeks I have been testing all of the latest web browser alpha's and beta's.

Here's a little overview of my findings:

Firefox 3: claiming to be the fastest in the market? They probably never used Opera. Not much new under the sun though.

Opera 2.5: Still the most responsive but not much new stuff either.

Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1: Hohoho. Love it or hate it. But fast it is. Looks good as well.
As a well known Winslow basher I was pleasantly surprised.

Maxthon: If we have IE8, why would you use this? The same engine as IE7.

And here is something new:

Space Time: a new browser with some Linux eye candy for Windows. Still in a very early stage of development and very slooowwww.

Re: I am excited: browser war on the horizon

I am far too used to firefox nowdays to be bothered with anything else. I do wish its opera aping 'speed dial' extension gets done properly, it currently is quite buggy Ive found. I love that speed dial

I'll end up having IE at work as we used a browser based diary and stats system. Other than that, I rarely use IE at all. Even the one-click which you use in a freeEPG setup, can now be achieved on FF

space time is a nice concept, but extremel;y slow. Would be great on a multi-touch pc

You didnt mention safari >> im sure there are some cool funky types that like to pretend theyre on a Mac

Opera 2.51 definetely the fastest browser out there. In linux it's even faster than in Win. Comes with anti malware.

I usually use Firefox, 3.0 now, but can use IE, no problems, and like the rendering of Safari - non-English pages.
Don't see any war coming. Competition is good, they all will improve.

Re: I am excited: browser war on the horizon

I've been a Firefox convert since it was called Phoenix!

Tried Opera, not a fan of it. Too many reasons why I don't like it.

IE8 - Preview for end users is coming in August. I'm going to reserve my judgment until then. But if IE 7 is an indication, I think I won't be using IE 8 as my default browser.

Re: I am excited: browser war on the horizon

I have been using Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1 since it's release (albeit in "Emulate IE 7" mode, for max compatibility) and the extra features is great, there is a handy shortcut to Windows Live Translate in there which I use surprisingly often

Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 is supposed to come out pretty soon as well

Re: I am excited: browser war on the horizon

Zero: what are your reasons not to like Opera? Speed wise it beats the hell out of FF, you have the build-in torrent downloader, a working speed dial etc...
Actually I do not gave a damn about any of those browsers, I just want faster pageloading.

Awesome:

Re: I am excited: browser war on the horizon

firefox has been with me ever since the mozilla days..you know those days when you had that picture display when you opened mozilla..

ie7 isnt bad though, i just find it loading sites to be a bit slow
and opera has to be a close 2nd for my fave browser. and safari..well i tried the tihng when it came out and it displayed alot of my sites incorrectly so i never touched it again (and quite frankly im sick of apple programs!)

just my 2 cents
