I Linux MCE ever gets to a stage where it installs itself and everything works pretty much without too much mucking around then I'll be there in a flash with my DVB-T and DVB-S cards all working, like MS MCE should be already.

Re: Is there a market for my Vista/ MCE Leftovers?

Having only used MCE2005 for around 6months before getting Vista RC1 up and running I cant comment to much on it as i might not have had the most stable release, but what I did find was It took me a good couple of weeks to get it all working nicely finding all the patches and rollups needed, getting bladerunner working and much help from this forum! Thanks guys!

But I installed Vista RC1, it automatically installed my tuners, FreeEPG Worked. Main qualms i had and still have with it is how much effort it is to remove folders then it should be (a problem mainly for my customers) and a personal hate is how long it takes to play channel bt files over the network, some days its great and other days it can take 2-10minutes to launch the file. I have not had any guide issues in around 2months now so fingers crossed on that front.

I have tried KnoppMyth and while I got it working finally and running a frontend on my laptop from a live cd was COOL it wasnt fresh feeling, it wasnt nice to get around (yes im a sucker for candy) but it did function well enough but many hours where needed.

I have just purchased a PS3 and the dashboard media player is great for divx files, I am hoping that after a 250gb hdd upgrade and PLAYTV it will be the new media centre

Re: Is there a market for my Vista/ MCE Leftovers?

Have done it for so many times, I know exactly how to install MCE 2005 and updates, and drivers and IceTv, and PowerDVD and ffdshow and so on................................................ ......................
Then it just works - magic
Networking fast, with thumbnails etc. PQ is better than Vista - I can prove it - really
It can crap itself time to time, reboot helps.
But I don't have to rebuild kernel, or use vi, for God sake. And I am not religious

I had to learn on how to use vi, thanks to VMWare. Usable, but a pinnacle of what unix is - a user unfriendly piece of crap.
I don't mind using cli ( Clariion, or Symmetrix wise) if there is no gui, but give me a rest. So many years, and your product is as crappy as it will always be. Amen.

Re: Is there a market for my Vista/ MCE Leftovers?

Nice summary of experiences I never user Knoppmyth but as I understand it is quite old. Be interesting to see what the current incarnations of mythbuntu and other are like. Not that I'm a fan of ubuntu. From what I understand things are improving all the time. Last time I built a full Myth rig I found some very nice skins. I like eye candy too. My only complain vs MCe was that MCE keeps doing things while you travel around menus, change screens etc. Myth seemed to be a very much from line TV -> to music -> to some other function type affair. Feels less polished in that respect but for increased configurability, stability and support for more decoding, deinterlacing etc there is a certain amount of candy I can live without. VMC does it's job and it does look good while doing it (for the basics). I think I just like to play with things It's all good fun!

Cheers,

Arkay.
