Anyone tried one of these devices ?
I'm looking to get this for the in-laws, to connect a ps3 to home network, but don't want to get it/recommend it if it aint gonna work.
I've read plenty of discussion on whether its quick enough or not, but I just want them to be able to stream video (some HD) over it
I've heard that the quality of this approach is poor and that it you were to use it, your devices MUST all be on the same electicity circuit in you home (normally a home has several circuits). I'm happy streaming over wireless.

I wouldn't expect the 85M versions to be quick enough for HD streaming, there is quite a lot of overhead in them apparently. There are 200Mbs version though.
As Ox says, the points have to be on the same circuit, otherwise they won't be able to find each other.
i wonder if i can get it from somewhere to trial - seems to be differing views on whether it'll stream at 85 .. i would prefer not to spend more than necessary - and file copy is not an issue as this is ps3 and not likely to copy stuff to its HD ..

I have two single port Netgear 85Mbps units sitting here (we've moved into our new, cabled house so don't use them).
I'm in Kellyville, NSW - so if you are local (your profile doesn't state where you live) I'm quite happy to lend them to you. If interstate let me know and we can chat about details.
Regards,
Shane.

Thanks for the offer - but i'm in melbourne
How did they handle things when you were using them ?
I'm a little concerned about the actual power usage of these devices. The specs for the Netgear 200Mbps devices say they pull about 6W, which means just to get a single connection going you need 2, so that's 12W. Does anyone know if they are using this power all the time, or only when the attached ethernet device is present/powered on?
I know 12W might not sound like much to some people, but i'm picky
