LMAO! Vista sells only 244 copies in China...

Im sure a few of you would've come across this...

I couldnt help but giggle...in the nation that is arguably the root of all piracy in the world, MS has apparently been pouring hefty $$ to encourage people to purchase Vista.

Two weeks after release in China it seems Vista has only managed to sell 244 official copies...

Given the wages many Chinese workers slog it out for, I personally can see why Mickey & Minnies $1 version of Vista Ultimate is more appealing to them... For alot of people - the cost of Vista Ultimate = 6-12 months wages. (not even consideing a compliant pC to run it on)

and I thought I was lucky getting my RTM via my employer

The wow really does start now... for the wrong reasons.

Apparently they were selling Vista (ultimate?) for 200USD. The average wages in China per year are under 800USD. Microsoft obviously weren't aiming for massive sales to the average Chinese citizen, but I would've thought business alone would count for a huge ammount more than 244 sales in two weeks. Were are these figures coming from, are they reliable? Me thinks not.

Re: LMAO! Vista sells only 244 copies in China...

I was in China a couple of weeks ago and you can buy a copy of Vista for $1.67.

You can also get DVDs with 4 or 5 movies on them for about 80c.

So I can see why people there prefer the pirated versions.

However, computer hardware is only slightly cheaper than here.

Cheers, Banjo

Re: LMAO! Vista sells only 244 copies in China...

Let's not forget that Vista is effectively free. Anyone can obtain a copy of Vista and install it legally with no registration key. You can then use it for up to 120 days (if you are familiar with the public and legal method of "rearming" the trial) without paying.

It's only once you want to register Vista that you need to pay for it. So saying "you can buy a copy of Vista for $1.67" is not necessarily true...all you're getting is the media and packaging.
