Exclamation Bought a Sony RDR-HX710 DVD Recorder for $503!!!!

Well i thought id spread the good news about the bargain i picked up yesterday. I went to Brisbane Saturday night to take the mother inlaw and my partners sister & brother in law out for dinner for the mothers birthday. Yesterday we went to see the Amazing Human Body exhibit at the Showgrounds then we went out to the DFO near the Airport. Looking around at all the clothing Factory outlets i was increasingly getting more bored by the second, then just around the corner i see there is a Sony Factory Outlet there .

My partner tried to hide me from the place but it didnt work, i was in there too fast. Looking around the shop i saw they had some very nice Tv's on sale (50" HD rear projection TV for $3999). I kept looking around and noticed they had quite a few DVD Recorders with hard drives. There was a Dual Tuner, 250gig HDD, Time Shift, etc for about $1000. I thought that wasnt too bad, then my eye caught a DVD Recorder with 160gig HDD for $503 it was brand new, in box, 12 month warranty, etc, etc. This was the Sony RDR-HX710. I had to get for that price, the cheapest i have ever seen this machine is about $999 in retail stores.

It works fantastic, no troubles with Austar, just plug in and tune.

You can record television while watching a DVD movie, Pause Live TV, Watch Something youve recorded while recording something else, Multi-Regional DVD player, Dubbing DVD to HDD is simple one button press, Dubbing HDD to DVD is also simple just choose what you want and copy or you can create a playlist, etc.

For me the only improvements could be a second tuner & perhaps get rid of the sliding panel on the remote control. This doesnt effect me to much anyway as i have a Harmony 520, and i mean for $500 you cant be expecting 2 tuners.

I also love the fact that you can choose the quality you want to record in. HQ is stunning.

I havnt had a chance to play around with the Program Guide yet, but you can however name your recorded shows and even create a thumbnail pic for it.

As i mentioned before about dubbing DVD to HDD this can only be done if the dvd is copyright free, though i managed to test it last night and copied my DVD of Clerks (original) to the HDD without any problems.

I could go on about this thing so much more but ill stop, any other questions about the machine, just ask.

The RDRHX710 has many intriguing features that set the HX710 apart from the competition. With a 160GB Hard Disk Drive (269 hours of recording) Double Layer Recording and Playback, Chasing Playback and High Bit Rate Recording Mode (HQ+) the HX710 sets itself apart from the rest of the competition!

The HX710 offers up to 269 hours* or 34 DVD's of quality recordings, with a 160GB hard drive (HDD) you have the ability to maintain a huge database of your favourite TV programs!

The RDRHX710 also has many exciting features such as Chasing Playback & Simultaneous Record & Playback, HQ+ and One Touch Dubbing:

Chasing Playback is a handy timesaving feature that lets you begin playback of your favourite TV program recorded even if the show hasn't ended. With Chasing Playback simply begin watching your recordings anytime you want. Even better, skip unnecessary scenes so you can 'chase' your real-time program!

Simultaneous Record & Playback allows you to playback the content of one archived program while recording another, at the same time! This convenient feature will help you manage your recordings and playback more efficiently so you spend less time waiting and more time enjoying.

HQ+ Recording is a high quality recording standard surpassing any current recording standards available. With HQ+, higher bit-rate data can be encoded at a rate of 15MB/second (outstripping the conventional rate of 9MB/second) in MPEG-2 format. The result is superior recording quality, even on fast-moving pictures producing minimal noise distortion.

One Touch Dubbing makes exact copies of your Handycam footage without any regeneration loss. Simply connect your Handycam to the HX710 via the i-Link port. With the automatic synchronisation, recording begins after the tape is rewound to the beginning. The tape will rewind to the starting point after the recording. Your favourite Handycam footage to DVD at the press of a button!

Supafly I thought you were saving your pennies for a new MCE machine. An extra $200 and we could have had you up and running with Dual tuner mce

Nice buy though, I just couldn't live without dual tuners anymore.
