Crunchie Auto-Crop

Hi,

I record and watch a lot of SBS shows, so that means i quite often have subtitles in the recordings. ANyway, sometimes, when the subtitles "dip" into the bottom black barof the picture some of it has been cropped out? DOes crunchie use an autocrop feature to remove the black bars? can i turn this off?

Just that parts of letters, especially ones that hang below the line (p,g,j,y etc) get cut out?

Thanks for any help

Re: Crunchie Auto-Crop

Yes, Crunchie does have an autocrop feature and no it can't be removed in the current version. I can't for the life of me fathom why some stations broadcast video with subs in a black are below.. If/when I release a new version I'll allow an autocrop over-ride.

Cheers,

Arkay.

Re: Crunchie Auto-Crop

My recorded video is coming out as 16:9 ratio (640:368) after it goes through Crunchie.

Is this normal?

Re: Crunchie Auto-Crop

timmale,

That really depends on what the video is. Is the video 16:9 to begin with?

If not and it should be coming out as 4:3 you can use the force 4:3 option in the gui.

Crunchie will crop the black borders off the image then make some decisions about whether the remaining video is 16:9 or 4:3. If you recordings were made from Australian digital broadcasts this should work pretty accurately. If the recording came from somewhere else (analog card, cable) etc etc then the results can vary.

Cheers,

Arkay.

Re: Crunchie Auto-Crop

yeah originally 16:9 digital TV recordings

I am actully really happy with Crunchie! I am just using the MPG only solution, as I run all my MSDVI files through VideoRedo to cut out the ads!

I played back my first divx made with Crunchie and it came out really well!

Only thing is the original MPG file is 25 frames per second but Crunchie made the .AVI file 50 frames per second. Is this ok?

thanks,

Tim.

Re: Crunchie Auto-Crop

timmale,

That's what happens if you use double rate deinterlacing and yes, if it plays back properly it's THE best way to deinterlace and convert to progressive (which xvid is). Other deinterlacing methods throw away half the temporal infomation leaving stuttery video.. 50fps progressive is smooth as a babies..

Cheers,

Arkay.
