How to run all crunchie processes in Idle mode?

Hi,

I would really like to use Crunchie, but unfortunately there is not really a time of day where my HTPC can be guaranteed not to be recording etc, so i would like to run it while this is going on. It seems to me this should be doable if i can just get crunchie and helper utilities to run in Idle mode(ie only using 'spare' CPU cycles). I tried doing this, but i have noticed that the mencoder process that starts doesnt seem to run at the same priority that i start crunchie in. Is there a good way to handle this?

Re: How to run all crunchie processes in Idle mode?

Yep. It involves me re-writing the parts that execute mencoder to start them at a lower priority. Short of that I can't think of any quick and easy workaround for now.

It's on my list of things to do though I've found that my Live TV still works fine even when Crunchie is active.

MCE does a pretty good job of hogging whatever cycles it needs.

What problems do you get? Just sluggishness?

Cheers,
Arkay.

I get some sluggishness in the GUI/TV guide and when starting Live TV, but you are correct in that Live TV seems to be good at hogging CPU cycles, it probably runs at a very high priority. Im more worried about what happens when i record 3 shows at the same time while its running
Is the program open-source, because then i can just change it myself?

Just noticed that i am running 1.0, and that there is a 1.1 version. I guess id better get that, especially seeing as it has include AND exclude flags, so i can tell it to only compress my recorded simpsons series and similar.

Seems like a really good program btw.

Nope. Not open source at present anyway. I'd definately grab v1.1. It has a fair few more features and less bugs

When you install it make sure you delete your old .ini file before installing the new version!

Cheers,
Arkay.
