audio/video not synched

First i would like to say hello as i am a newly registered member of this forum, which, from a first look, semms very very interesting. Now up to the details:

i followed the instructions for installing crunchie, and i kept all default values.

i have to say that i capture the signal from my sky satellite decoder into the svideo input of my hauppauge mce150 and that i live in italy so no NTSC

the dvr-ms file i want to convert to xvid is about 6 gigs in size; for the lovers of the genre its the original version of cape fear .
i have not checked the aspect ratio but i think its 720x576 pal (italy)

well the dos windows reports no errors and after about 4,5 hours the xvid file is done.
first problem is the aspect ratio: the image is squished. i changed the zoom with mce (rollup2) option and the third parameter (there are 4) gives me back a "normal looking image".
second problem is the audio not synched: it is behind for about 2,3 seconds from the video.

all of this to say that now im in the office and i will try more conversion tonight but it looks i have finally found a great and easy way of saving up space.....

Hi Susman,

Ok. Can you do me a favour.

In the folder where Crunchie is installed is a log file. Delete it

Make sure the offending dvr-ms file is the only one in your folder to be crunched.

Get a dos prompt up and cd to the folder where you installed crunchie.

Run crunchie from the command like this:

crunchie.exe -d

It'll do it's thing and you'll see a lot of information scrolling up the screen as per normal but a bit more verbose.

No need to let it run to completion, 5-10 mins will be enough, then you can stop it and post the contents of the log file here so I can have a look.

Hi Again,

From reading the above and the posted log it looks to me like the original file has problems.

Can you please run crunchie and uncheck the "delete mpeg file" option and try again.

This will leave the original mpeg file in your temporary directory.

I'd like to see if you can play that mpeg file successfully with a media player. mplayer had troubles playing it which is why it got the wrong values for the crop detection.

Once you have that mpeg file you may have to run it through pvastrumento or projectx to "fix" the audio sync issues.

Once that is done you can drop the mpeg back into your source folder and Crunchie will process it from mpeg to divx.

Let me know if you have any trouble with the above. I don't think the error you are getting is a Crunchie thing. More to do with the quality of the original recording (even though it may play back in MCE fine).

hello Arkay,

i tried to import the same file in mydvd 6.1 and it gave me an error. Additionally, i tried with dvredit, and it gave me an error. In conclusion the dvrms file must have some problems, even if i can play it in mce )just wonderin g what the problems could be though....

Anyway, tonight i will try to crunch another file. I am at work now and i will keep this thread updated with the results. Again, thankyou for the support.

I'd try running it through video redo to convert it to mpeg, then run it through projectx or pvastrumento which should fix the errors.

Not all dvr-ms files are recorded alike. Back a while ago now nearly every recorded file needed to be processed to remove errors before conversion to a new format. NOt recording seems to be very reliable so I didn't even bother implementing something to check in Crunchie
