Problem with DVRSToolBox

I am running DVRSToolBox to cut commercials before running crunchie... but I am having problems with some files... I have cut the output that I get from DVRSToolBox please let me know if anone got any ideas...

did you get the toolbox working at all for cutting out ads? I would be very suprised about this.

Most of the members use Videoredo, Dcut or dvredit to perform this.

i have about a 50% hit ratio with DVRMSToolBox... however each file that I am NOT able to run DVRMSToolbox on also DOES NOT run on crunchie...

Its getting to be kinda annoying really and I am seriously concidering dumping the project alltogether

I will post the errors that I get with crunchie later tonight to see if anyone has any insight on this matter.

Ok..

One thing at a time... Have you tried using DVRMSToolbox by itself to convert a dvr-ms file to mpeg? Did it work?

Crunchie uses DVRMSToolbox to get the dvrms file to mpeg format. To me it looks like you have one of two problems:

a) Your recordings have errors in them causing dvrmstoolbox to fail or
b) Something is wrong with the DVRMSToolbox installation.

No point in trying to cut ads and compress etc before you can prove one of the two things above...

Let me know if you need some help running DVRMStoMPEGGUI to try some basic conversions.

if I had to guess I would say that some of the files have "problems" this is the only way I can explain why some work and some dont... if you can point me to a good guide on how to trouble shoot using the GUI I would very much appreciate it.

do note that 100% of the files are playable using any of the 2 MCE 2005 machines that I own... for some reason I just cant seem to be able to use DVRMSToolbox to compress them (or do anything for that reason)

Can you post some info on your setup. What tv tuners you use. How the recordings were made. What is your signal strength (have you checked it). What software do you have installed on your machine.

Have you got Nero Showtime installed? and have you installed any codec packs or any other software besides purevideo and ffddhow?

Yesterday I finished compressing all my shows (had about a 60% success ratio), unfortunatly I have recorded shows in so many different computers and then formatted them and re-installed MCE'05 so many times that I can't really tell which shows were recorded on which setup...

I compressed about 11 different shows (about 40 hours of video) and got like 6-7 of them to work with Crunchie...

at this moment I am running an eVGA (nVidia) TVTuner card on a 3.5 ghz machine P4, I have installed the following Codecs/Software on it...

- nVidia Decoder (bundled with card, works GREAT and I would not want to remove it from my system)
- FULL Nero (including recode and showtime, which I dont mind removing)
- PowerDVD (latest version)

also... I HAVE NOT INSTALLED Purevideo (unless it comes bundled with Crunchie, DVRMSToolBox or ffddhow), if I need this, please provide a link where I can download it from.

I run crunchie in my local MCE machines and make it store the end product @ my 2 TB file server on my network (100 mbps network only not gig-e)

I am willing to re-format my MCE'05 computer and put on it ONLY the stuff you recommend in order to make crunchie work (in fact I am rebuilding my second MCE machine right now)

OK, this one is a simple fix. Get rid of Nero Showtime. It's a broken piece of rubbish software. You can leave the nero burning rom stuff there just get rid of showtime (it installs a pile of codecs that seemingly break many other things.)

Really.. Ahead should've quit when they were ahead and stuck with burning software only

Do that and try again with DVRMSToolbox and Crunchie. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I had an issue with DVRMSToolbox crashing, a few steps before yours in the log. (i.e. last line was "Processing XML graph path")

I later found my issue to be the filename (which I had changed to represent a DVREdit cut I had made) included a "&" symbol, which caused DVRMSToolbox to bombout.

When searching for a fix I foudn this thread, so I thought it may be of help to someone else.

If you're using Crunchie to convert files it will automatically rename anything with an & in it before DVRMSToolbox gets called to work around this problem.

For anyone using DVRMSToolbox by itself the & will cause things to fail!

I must have an earlier version (0.0.0.0 hehe) of Crunchie, my install didn't appear to rename it.

Here's an example, this isn't the file name that caused me issues (that was "Brian McFadden & Delta Goodrem - Almost Here.dvr-ms"

As you can see I'm archiving my music recordings... shhhh

Now I know the issue, I'm as happy as can be, just thought I'd add some feedback.

Have you upgraded to the latest version. It has a few new options and bug fixes. Worth doing.

You can find the current version Crunchie thread here. Be sure and uninstall the old version first and delete your old .ini file out of the program directory before re-installing (if you're installing to the same place.
