Hi Arkay & friends,
getting back to my previously posted problem with Crunchie on Windows Server 2003, I have now solved the problem.... Joy!!
For the very few users who may want/need to do this, here are the steps to take.
The main problem is that Windows Server 2003 does not support dvr-ms files at all. So we just have to tell it how to. Note that you will still need a DVD decoder for any dvr-ms playback, but this is probably not needed to just run Crunchie.
So, Copy the following three files into the Windows 2003 Server box from either a Windows XP or Windows MCE machine. They are all in the C:\Windows\System32 folder, and need to be copied into the C:\Windows\System32 folder on the Server O/S box.
encdec.dll
sbe.dll
sbeio.dll
On the Server box, go to Start - Run and type these two commands
regsvr32 encdec.dll [Hit Enter]
regsvr32 sbe.dll [Hit Enter]
(You should see a message each time saying the dll registration succeded)
Now install and run Crunchie as per normal, including loading dvrmstoolbox, divx and of course Crunchie.
Loving it. All my media is on the noisy Server PC hidden away in the house where it can be as noisy as it wants. I didn't want to run Crunchie on the internet/work 2GHz PC as it only has a big heatsink (no fan) and might not enjoy 100% CPU load all night. And I didn't want to run it on the MCE box either as I'd then have to turn the CPU fan up to cope with the load, and there goes the near-silence!! And as it's often taping TV during the night, I wanted to leave that alone as well. So the server was the obvious choice for Crunching, but I couldn't get it to go!!! Off and running now, and loving it. Might not need to buy any more hard drives for a while!!!
Go The Crunchie!!
Cheers
