Aspect Ratio Questions

Hi,

I tried to reply to a similar thread started by "draggoon01" but couldn't because it said the thread was too old. So I guess I have to start my own...

First, thanks for "Crunchie", I've been using it for a month now and really enjoying shrinking my dvr-ms files down!

I have (I think) the same problem as draggoon01 posted about, so I was sorry there were no replies to that post. Perhaps there is no solution. I have been converting my "Battlestar Galactica" episodes and I guess they come in 16:9 because they looked great. Then I tried converting some "Backyardigans" for my 2-year-old and the characters got all short and fat. I guess this one is in 4:3. I was surprised as I figured all my recordings from the same source (my MCE PC with digital cable) would have the same aspect ratio. I guess not. Now I have to remember to switch my Crunchie configuration to "Force 4:3 aspect ratio" when I am doing the cartoons, not a huge deal, but a bit of a pain.

This is probably an obvious newbie question, but that "Force 4:3..." option says "For analog recordings only". Draggoon01 states that he/she is recording off of analog. How does one know? I thought since I had "digital" cable and this was all being done through my PC, it would be a digital recording.

Thanks for any help,
jpottle

Re: Aspect Ratio Questions

JPottle,

Have you tried to change your aspect ratio by using the internal MCE zoom function?

Press "I" on the mce remote > zoom. I am even not sure if it works for divx.

It does work for divx!

I have some divx movies that are 16:9x4:3. They are in 16:9 resolution inside a 4:3 picture (silly i know) but if i do what bella says above and go to setting 2 i get a fullscreen 16:9 video...

Re: Aspect Ratio Questions

talking of aspect ratios, all my crunchie conversions chop it to 4:3 even though I don't have the option selected. Is this fixable?
