real estate inside HTPC.

Hi guys.

I've got a LC16 Silverstone case and I've just bought a new video card as my old one had up and died on me.

Found a bargain at IT Estate so went ahead and got it.....was an ASUS EAH3850.....

when I got home, I noticed that the card 'juuuuust' fits inside with the edge of it touching the back of my DVD burner.

....HOWEVER...I need to put in the power for the card so the fan will turn. With this, I can't fit it in.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has come across a similar problem and if there are other solutions to power the GPU fan....or if there is an existance of a shorter DVD burner

Thats the problem with the LC16 you cant put in a full sized video card. I use a low profile card in my LC16 case.
Does the card work without the extra power? If it does put your own heatsink on it.

Re: real estate inside HTPC.

What type of connection is it? Molex? FDD power? I remember seeing a tight right angle molex power plug years ago, but if it's touching tight, even one of those probably wouldn't fit.

It's not normally just power for the fan BTW - the cards themselves often need more power than can be supplied by the x16 slot.

Re: real estate inside HTPC.

It's the 6 pin power connector....and it is sitting very very tight....

in fact it's hitting the back of the DVD drive without the IDE cable connected to teh drive, so definatley, will need to get a shorter drive...if there are any out there.

I was looking for the shorter drives, and the LG drives are advertised as being a bit shorter than standard. Haven't used them, but they are about the only site that gives dimensions that are shorter than standard.
