Nvidia or ATI

Hi guys

I am looking to replace my Nvidia 6600GT and was wondering which way would you suggest i jump and for what reason.

I have been looking at either a 8600GT or 9600GT but do not want to discount ATI's offerings.

My main concern is PQ and ability of custom resolutions

Please share your thoughts on the best way to go

Cheers Glenn

Re: Nvidia or ATI

I can strongly recommend the Palit HD3850 and vlad is very happy with the Palit 9600GT.

Both have HDMI ports which means you don't have to use DVI-HDMI dongles and the ensuing audio issues.

I am very happy with PQ and control using Catalyst.

Re: Nvidia or ATI

Hi Glenn,
I think they both OK. Both can handle custom resolutions and both have great PQ.
It is a matter of personal choice, I think. Personally, I would not buy a card for HTPC without HDMI out. Native, not some dongles, etc. I have Palit 9600 GT Sonic in HTPC and Sapphire HD 3870, in my gaming PC. Both give a crisp and great looking picture.

I just replaced my 6600gt on my desktop with an Asus 8600gt 256 ddr3 silentpipe.

I found it on sale for about 120 bucks so figured at some point I could use it in my HTPC when I get my new HD LCD (awaiting waf).

Runs cool and quite and runs BF2 a little quick, but no native HDMI port was a little dissapointing
