All,
Long time luker here, many thanks for unknowingly helping me get my MCE box to where it is so far!
A couple of quick questions:
- Can the MCE app trigger BRP to automatically download data or must BRP be triggered as a scheduled task which then updates MCE? If the latter is true can you disable MCE from doing its scheduled EPG update (as the windows scheduled task for BRP would then handle this)?
- Is there a recommended guide source(s) for Newcastle? Im currently using the jrobbo DW guides but would be happy to use another source or sources and merge them with something like GuideDog if necessary.
I've got the scheduled task waking up the computer and running happily enough...
will this be enought to have the EPG update in MCE?
Because I have noticed that by the end of the week I am running out of data, this i usually solve by triggering bladerunner from the more programs menu in MCE, only then will the EPG update.
The scheduled task is enough, it downloads the data and loads it into the guide.
If you are using OZTvio as your source (the most common one around here) then the data does "run out" towards the end of the week. This source does not maintain a steady 7 days in advance. If you want a more regualr source go IceTv. Either way do remember to donate some $ to your source, they need to survive!
On OZTvio, from memory Saturday gets added about Wed, and Sun gets added about Thu/Fri. So the reality is its best to schedule your guide downloads (scheduled task) to run on days like Friday and Monday.

Thanks i found that when my PC was waking up the network was not starting up quick enough to allow the guide download, I'll put a wait in and hopefully solve that issue.
Another question though, do i need the MCE app running to have BRP update the guide in it? Generally MCE is only running when im watching something on it. Ive noticed the guides only seem to update when this is running... ie - running BRP outside of MCE results in no guide update, but running it from the more programs option in MCE results in a good guide update.

No you do not need the MCE shell running for BRP to update your guide. In fact after the guide download you should see s sys tray icon for guide loading appear (if you were watching).
You may way to check if you BRP command from the scheduled task has the "-t" option on the command line. This is the commend to load the guide. (You may want to check that it is "-t", I'm 99% sure but don't have the doco with me - a site search should sort this out for you)

Is there a recommended guide source(s) for Newcastle?
I just noticed its been a while since replies were posted about this topic and you may have sorted everything.
But just wanted to let you know that I'm from Newcastle too and i use BRP and OzTivo.
I had to go to the OzTivo site and edit the channels that i use (as you do), including the channels for fox (i use fox and FTA together). its a little fiddly if your not used too it...
I had previously used Free*EPG but when using the guide that has both FTA and Fox, for channel Prime you could only use 7, for NBN you could only use 9 and for Southern Cross you could only select 10. So the guides would be off.
So stuck with BRP and OzTivo and the guide works well
