Bladerunner not working in MCE2004 or Vista RC2

Hello,

I currently have a dual boot system with MCE2004 and Vista RC2.

I have never fully enjoyed MCE due to missing program guide data for my country (Brazil). Upon finding this forum I thought my luck had finally changed... I believe I am almost there, but still haven't managed to load the EPG in MCE2004 or Vista.

Here is what is happening:

- Vista RC2

Bladerunner 3.5 simply won't run. I'll receive a message from Vista stating that it stopped working immediatly after starting it. I have disabled UAC and set the executable to run in compatibility mode, but it doesn't help.

I also tried using a guide.bin file generated in MCE2004 (where Bladerunner 3.5 runs fine). Even though Bladerunner is not working in Vista, its setup did update the discSvc key in the registry. So I imagined that vista might be able to grab the guide.bin file sucessfuly anyway. But it did not work...

- MCE2004

First of all I am not really sure if Bladerunner is even supposed to work on MCE2004. All the posts I could find refer to MCE2005. But I still tried it...

I sucessfuly generated the guide.bin file. However, when I tried updating the guide data using zip code 00000, it failed. I went to the registry only to find that the discSvc key had changed and was poiting again to Microsoft's download site. I tried reinstalling BladeRunner again to update the key right before entering the zip code and starting download, but every single time MCE would change the key value back to Microsoft.

I then saw that keep key service that is available for download. I decided to give it a try as well, but unfortunately the service will not work on MCE2004.

Any insights on how I might be able to get past these issues will be greatly appreciated!

Cheers.

Re: Bladerunner not working in MCE2004 or Vista RC2

Hi.
In my experience, bladerunner v3 is what works on vista, not v3.5
The "Vista changes my settings" problem is explained elsewhere on this site and the "KeepKey" application is what you need.

Like yourself, I'm from a country without an EPG service (NZ), but can get XMLTV data (via a utility called xmltvnz). If you can find this info for your country you can use bladerunner v3 in vista to get the guide running. I have and have posted some pointers in the "Vista - chit - chat" section, under the heading "I have a working EPG/BRP". Make sure you read the entire thread, as a lot of my orginal post is not required.

Hope this helps.

Pete
