Exclamation Big Screen Weather 2 Update Patch for Australian Radars

Hi,

The Big Screen Weather 2 data file has been updated to support changes (and additions) to the collection of Radar/Imagery files provided by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.

After patching this data file (see instructions below) - the following changes will be available :

- Fixed Australian IR and Color IR Radar Loops to show correct latest images
- Fixed overlay legends for All Doppler Wind and Rainfall loops
- Added 4 new Melbourne Rainfall Radar Loops - 6min, 1hr, Since 9am and 24hr.
- Increased # looped frames to 6 (and 7) for all Melbourne Radar Loops
- Added new Bairnsdale (VIC) 128km and 256km IR Radar Loop
- Removed East Sale (VIC) Radars (now no longer in operation)

To patch an existing installed copy of Big Screen Weather v2 - please do the following (while Big Screen Weather 2 is not running) :

1) Extract the file bsw2lu.dat from the attached .zip file (in this message) to your local harddrive.

2) Locate the Weather 2 Program Data directory on your harddrive (available once the original product is installed) -

<vistadrive>:\ProgramData\Big Screen\Weather 2\Data

if Vista is installed on your c: drive - then the path will be :

c:\ProgramData\Big Screen\Weather 2\Data

3) Copy the file bsw2lu.dat over the top of the old file in this directory. (You should be prompted to 'overwrite' this file if you have the correct location).

4) Start Big Screen Weather v2 and you should see the new/enhanced content when you go to the imagery section.

Please let me know if anyone has problems with this new update (or spots anything else which needs to be fixed).

This new data file will be patched into the upcoming update of Big Screen Weather v2 installer (which will also accomodate the updated version of Vista Media Center).

thanks

Re: Big Screen Weather 2 Update Patch for Australian Radars

Hi,

I am using the latest version of Big Screen Weather (which is awesome by the way), but my radar images do not seem to be updating. Every radar I look at shows no rain yet when i compare to web based BOM website and same radar image it shows rain. I don't even get the "ghost" rain shadows that often appear on the BOM website.

I thought maybe it was the cache so I renamed the ImageCache and Images directories in the ProgramData directory but still no change.

Windows 7 Ultimate

Any ideas please?

PS : I have also applied the update on this post with the same issue still occuring after the update.

PSS: I have also tried uninstalling / reinstalling. No luck. Tried above paths again, no luck.

It is as if the rain overlays are not showing over the maps. Please help.

Hi -

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

It appears that BOM has changed their radar pages (again) causing this to stop working. (which unfortunately is not something within my control). I'll need to have a look at their new radar imagery pages - and produce an upated installer/metadata file to suite whatever they are doing now. I'll advise when this has been done (and new metadata file or installer is available).

Rgds

Ok - this problem has been fixed - and I've also added some new Melbourne (7 Day) Forecast locations (that were added by BOM over past few months).

Please see this thread for an updated Data file (and instructions on how to patch existing installs of Big Screen Weather v2).

thanks
Niall
