Re: Big Screen Weather Update (v2)..

Hi Niall,

I've sent you a thanks e-mail regarding BSWv2. Fantastic app mate. Love it!!!!
One small question for other users -> Does anyone have trouble selecting the top menu options? My mouse seems to move like crazy and jumps to the next selection as it seems "sensitiive".

Re: Big Screen Weather Update (v2)..

Hi Maz,

Thanks for the feedback - great to here you're enjoying it.

I imagine it's a little unclear still what is 'supposed' to be offered - as I'm still finishing the support documents etc on the new site. (although there is a HTML release notes included when you install it).

In terms of mouse control - this is not intended to be 100% supported (much like the actual VMC ui - you can do 'most' things with your mouse - but still need to revert back to a keyboard or remote for the odd function.). I'd really suggest to get access to all the functionality in the app - that keyboard or remote is the way to go. (and all the navigation /focus control is specifically designed to be 4-way navigation friendly).

The reason for lack of mouse - is that all the usage/stats figures I've seen indicate that only very low % of the '10 foot' VMC users don't have the keyboard/remote readily handy. (I think it's something like 1-2% of total users).

However - if you do need mouse on the main menu - the 'trick' is to move your mouse either over the icon up top or to left or right side - and then quickly move the pointer back into the content area (and that way it will only jump 1 to category). If your mouse is still up in the nav icons are of the screen - you will get an 'auto repeat' style scenario occuring. (and it will keep changing the focused icon). I think using the left/right side of content area is marginally easier to do this with.

I will definitely keep an eye on this though - and if enough people are telling me they really want mouse control I'll look at adding some addition onscreen buttons for this - (a bit like what MS do in the EPG with the 4 way arrows in bottom corner). If I slowed down the slide animation a touch as well - this could also help.

cheers

Niall

Hi Niall,

Thanks for the update. I tried it with my Harmony remote this morning. Navigation is perfect. I'll stick to using that instead of the mouse.

Hi - I'm hoping for full launch mid next week (although the actual product/setup is 'final' - the complete 'customer experience' extends to the website etc and support materials).

There's a chance I may allow some interested parties (who had already decided they want to buy it) - to beta test the actual creditcard purchase bit (and may offer some small discounts to make it worth the effort) - and I'll post something here if this happens.

Niall

Seems you can't even download the trial without an invite code. Come on Niall!
