Yep, they have some nice amps. Even this one is pretty good if you are on a budget:

Re: A hand Choosing speakers and Amp

I just picked up a set of Boston Acoustics (2 x CR97, 2 x CR67, 1 x CRC7) and they are awesome. A smidge over 2.5k though....

Now I'm on the lookout for a new amp

Re: A hand Choosing speakers and Amp

well she who must be obeyed will not allow more than $1000 for speakers and amp so this may be the speakers before the 'speakers'

But the main message I am taking is find speakers that sound good to me. Just got to make sure I dont sample any of the top of the range stuff cheers lads

Re: A hand Choosing speakers and Amp

swmbo needs an adjustment mate. $1000 for an amp and speakers is like you telling her she has $10 for this weeks shopping...

Why is it that most women have no appreciation for the finer things in life.

If I had a dollar for every blokes "partner" that ruined their HT install because the speakers had to be less than a micron in size and mounted out of sight and the screen wasn't allowed to be "too big" etc etc.. Isn't the purpose of HT the size of the screen AND the quality of the sound?!

Cheers,

Arkay.

Re: A hand Choosing speakers and Amp

Do what I did and take her with you.

We went 'looking' for some bookshelf speakers as we wanted something discrete (new house, new setup) . After hearing the bookshelf speakers, and then the big brothers, the missus said 'You have to get the big ones, they sound so much better'.....

So instead of getting two bookshelf speakers, I ended up with a full surround setup with her blessing (spending about $1,700 more in the process)

Re: A hand Choosing speakers and Amp

That is the secret. Did the same thing with the TV. Was looking at 42" plasma at the time but swmbo saw the 50" and said it was a much more suitable size She's one of the odd ones out though. She understands that PQ and audio quality are more important than how they look in a room. Though the speakers I bought are very stylish anyway and add to the furniture in the room.

Cheers,

Arkay.

Re: A hand Choosing speakers and Amp

I`ll 4th or 5th the Yamaha option.

Ive got a RX 75X(something or other), has HDMI, all the bits and bobs, Ipod connector etc etc, more SPDIF ports than I need.

I wouldnt however go Yamaha for speakers..personal preference, but I found them to be rather harsh and 'edgy'. I completely agree..personal preference.

I would recommend this place though..re-conditioned/ex-display Yamaha stuff, that still comes with a 1yr waranty (new comes with 2years)

Im in WA, and the delivery was literally next day. very happy!
Check Ebay as well for some of their listings.

So who paid for the old TV? If it was you throw it out yourself or put it in your computer room/office and have nothing in the lounge or detune the TV when your not watching it yourself.
